A baby's first birthday is a truly special occasion. More importantly it's one that you will want to commemorate with meaningful keepsakes. And while a picture says a thousand words, there's nothing more special than a heart-felt poem to express the joy of your baby's first year. Here are a few creative ideas to alleviate writers block.

An acrostic is a fun and easy verse. Simply write your baby's name vertically in the left hand margin and use the letters to begin each line. If you are putting the poem into a baby book or scrap book, get artistic with the font so that the name really stands out on the page.
Here's an example:
B eautiful little babe, you were born on this day
A joyful addition to our life
B ecause you bring the light into our world with your smile
Y our parents will always love you

Y our parents will always love you

The month and date of your baby's birth can also inspire your poem. Instead of writing your own, find a special poem about the month or season in which your child was born and dedicate it to him.
Here's an example:
For baby:
That beaufiful season the summer
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.
--Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

- In addition to writing the poem in a baby book, you can also print the poem out and frame it in your childs room.
- Decorate it with seasonal touches as well as your baby pictures.

Use your baby's footprint to guide your words. This simple poem will make a beautiful addition to a baby book or memory box.
Preparation
- You will need a rubber stamp and card stock and piece of clear paper.
Steps
- Dip your baby's feet in the ink and press onto white card stock.
- Cover the card stock with clear paper, so that the footprint is visible
- Write out a poem in the shape of the footprint on the clear paper. A cute idea is to incorporate the idea of the footprint into the poem.
