 Baby Shower for Twins
Tangled Twins!

Twins are certainly twice the blessing for expectant parents and a baby shower for twins brings on more questions than the usual, "Where are they registered." Along with an F.A.Q. about etiquette for this doubly special occasion, I've included a couple of baby shower themes perfect for the mom, dad, and bundles of joy!

Baby Shower For Twins F.A.Q.
Hosting a baby shower is a quite the task, albeit a fun one, perfect for those who thrive on organization. Beyond managing the RSVP list during the planning stages of the event, there always seems to be a bunch of questions from both the host and guests about the gifts, nursery colors, even how the mama-to-be is feeling. Then, compound the questions with all those queries specific to twins!

My article Baby Shower Etiquette answers many commonly asked questions, such as who traditionally hosts the shower, as well as planning tips. Here are a few F.A.Q.s for the twin-spin to help you out.

Q: Do I need to buy gifts for both babies?

A: No. Gifting is entirely up to the giver. Even though the babies are born on the same day, they're not the same person. And, siblings learn to share as they get older. With regard to matching outfits for identical twins, this is a question that the party host should be informed about. Check in with the expectant parents about if they would like pairs or clothes for the babes.

Q: The couple has (tactfully) requested money to help with "big ticket" items like a double stroller, but I really want to give a gift.

A: Again, the gift is coming from you so it is your choice. However, consider that the parents will be buying for two, and the gift of a monetary donation would probably be greatly appreciated. There's always that first time visit to see the babies where you could bring a couple of toys as gifts!

Q: Many twins are born before their due date, should I consider hosting the shower sooner than later?

A: Not a bad idea. Where most showers occur right around 8 months when the mother is radiantly pregnant, you may want to host a shower for twins when the mother is about 6 months pregnant.  Of course, check with the expectant parents about the date, registry details, and the like so all are comfortable with the impending plans.

2 Peas in a Pod is a darling theme and probably the most popular for a twin baby shower. The ideas keep getting cuter as you think about the decor possibilities, the obvious food associations, and the cake that inspired me for this theme (pictured).

2 Peas in a Pod Decor Ideas

I love the "garden" motif that this theme brings to mind. Take the party outside and create a fresh feel on the tabletop.

Peas in a Pod Tabletop Arrangements and Candles

  • Celebrations.com expert, Julie Mulligan, created some beautiful Pea in a Pod flower and candle arrangements and you can see the photos on her blog
  • For the flower arrangement, she crafted a "pod" from papier-mache' and then filled it with carnation "peas." The candles are very clever in that she lined the outside of a glass votive holder with snow peas and secured them with ribbon.
  • Place these arrangements on a pea green tablecloth for a chic monochromatic look, go country with a gingham or check-patterned cloth, or try chocolate brown linens for a contemporary look.

Pea Pod Seed Packet Place Cards

  • Affix a name label on the front of a pea pod seed packet and you have an adorable thematic place card for guests!

2 Peas in a Pod Party Favors

  • Some of the cutest party favors I've seen for this theme are pea in a pod bath bombs and soaps.  Place these items in a basket for guests to take home.

2 Peas in a Pod Food Ideas

Sprinkle peas and peapods into your menu to carry the theme throughout your party.

2 Peas in a Pod Cake and Cupcakes

Pink Cake Box is one of my favorite bakers and the pictured 2 Peas in a Pod cake and cupcake design with the mom-to-be on top is just precious! This cake was actually created for an expectant mother of twins!

Baby Shower Cupcakes Two Peas in a Pod Pink Cake Box Cake

According to the bakers, "The topper cake was decorated in ivory fondant with pink, blue and green polka dots. Inside was vanilla cake with lemon filling. The cupcake flavors included chocolate with vanilla filling and red velvet with vanilla filling."

Pink Cake Box is located in New Jersey and you can check their website for areas where they delivery.

Baby Shower for Twins Theme: Noah's Ark
Noah's Ark is a common baby shower theme and even more apropos for twins given that there were two of each animal of the vessel! Think identical small stuffed animals in flower arrangements and chocolate animal lollipops as party favors.

Noah's Ark Decor Ideas

You don't have to build the ark, but a few pairs of plush animals on the tabletop is an easy way to perk up this theme.

Noah's Ark Tabletop Arrangement

  • For a simple Noah's Ark themed arrangement, place flowers in low baskets and then add 2 identical small plush animals within the flowers or beside the basket on the table.

Noah's Ark Place Cards

  • Place chunky small plastic animals, such as bath toys, at each guest's place at the table. Lean a place card against the animal or create a name label and tie it around the animal's neck with ribbon.

Noah's Ark Party Favors

  • Check the craft store for animal themed lollipop molds and create chocolate animal lollipops for guests to take home.

Noah's Ark Food Ideas

Shape food items as animals with cookie cutters for a quick way to play up the theme and consider some foods that are referenced in the bible as a novel idea.

Animal Food

  • Animal-Shaped Tea Sandwiches
  • Animal-Shaped Cookies
  • Animal Crackers
  • Homemade mini pizza cut into animal shapes

Biblical Food References (thanks to Biblical Cooking)

  • Bread - Luke 22:19
  • Butter - Isaiah 7:22
  • Cheese - I Samuel 17:18

Noah's Ark Sculpted Fondant and Cupcakes

Isabella's Sweet Tooth on Flickr made this adorable Noah's Ark and animal cupcake display.

The cake designer made the ark and animals out of fondant explaining, "The inside of the boat is Styrofoam, the couple wanted to be able to keep it in the nursery."

I really like how she used blue frosting to create the look of water on top of the cupcakes and then set a little fondant animal on top. I imagine that she displayed the ark with the cupcakes surrounding it on the party table. Gorgeous work!
