 Coed Baby Shower
Go Coed for an Awesome Baby Shower.

Baby showers cry out for a theme. But, the typical cushy, cuddly, pink and blue decor may not make the guys feel at home if you're throwing a couple's baby shower. Try these ideas that will appeal to both the mama and the papa guests at your Coed Baby Shower.

Tips
Close all
Goddesses and Gods Greek Themed Baby Shower
Spread the word that this baby shower is actually a good old-fashioned toga party!
Invitations
  • Go with the "baby shower friendly" invitation title of Goddesses and Gods and then let the guys know that this is basically a toga party.
  • Send scroll invites to herald the party. Roll it up and keep it closed with a tassel.
  • Mail the invitations in a cardboard tube.

Decor and Party Supplies

  • Not only do Greek fashions work for guys, the high waistline on the female toga or kyton is very flattering on a pregnant woman. Ask everyone to come dressed for the occasion.
  • Decorate the party space with faux Greek statuary and columns.
  • Use white cloths on tables and draped fabric overlays in rich jewel tones such as burgundy or purple.
  • Place a basket of grapes on each guest table for an easy centerpiece. Or simply create a garland down a long banquet table of lemon leaves and fresh fruit.
  • Present food on gold-toned platters to replicate the opulence of the Gods and give guests goblets to drink from.

Food

  • Hummus and pita bread or chips are one of the most popular party appetizers and readily available at most grocery stores.
  • Fill in the menu with dolmades or stuffed grape leaves, olives, spanakopita, Greek salad, and specialties like tzatsiki and taramosalata, a Greek caviar dip.
  • Lamb or chicken kabobs are a perfect entrée and falafels are a good choice for the vegetarians in the crowd.
  • Along with a baby shower cake, serve the Greek dessert baklava.

Rockin' the Cradle Couple's Baby Shower
Think "Ed Hardy" inspired decor mixed with rock music for this contemporary couple's baby shower.
Invitations
  • Create CD invitations with the expectant couple's favorite rock tunes.
  • Make CD labels that contain the baby shower information along with rock and roll style artwork for the CD sleeve.
  • Send through the mail in a sturdy envelope.

Decor and Party Supplies

  • Go for a contemporary rock look by incorporating an Ed Hardy-esque design in your décor, which could be described as bright graffiti meets Harley Davidson.
  • Hang a "brick wall" scene-setter around the party space. Use bright markers to decorate the brick with cartoon drawings of hearts, angels, and similar images. Write slogans like, "Rock the Cradle," or song titles that have the word "baby."
  • Buy inflatable musical instruments to set around the room.
  • Use black vinyl or faux leather tablecloths with neon cups and party supplies.
  • Add bright furry pillow accents on couches and chairs.
  • Play a selection of the expectant couple's favorite rock tunes.

Food

  • Please the crowd and keep things simple with a variety of pizzas delivered from a local restaurant.
  • Add to the menu with a green salad, garlic bread, and perhaps pasta for a more complete meal.
  • Serve a baby shower cake in the shape of a guitar.

Western BBQ Baby Shower
Go West! Throw a coed baby shower that both the guys and gals will fancy.
Invitations
  • Find a western style invite and customize it with your baby shower party info.
  • Wrap the invitation in a cloth red bandana and keep it closed with a toy sheriff star pin.
  • Send the invite through the mail in a brown padded envelope and consider using a western theme rubber stamp of a horse, cowboy hat, or the like on the envelope to give it a little more personality.

Decor and Party Supplies

  • There's plenty of Western party décor available to gussy up this hoedown.
  • Place hay bales around the party space for guests to sit on and add a few wagon wheels if available.
  • Use denim placemats or tablecloths, and roll up utensils in bandanas to use as napkins.
  • Create a simple centerpiece of a wheat grass square and a few horseshoes. Or, put bouquets of daisies in small zinc pails.
  • Put beverages in a half wood barrel or a zinc tub.

Food

  • Everyone loves BBQ and there are a bunch of ways to go.
  • Make this a burgers and dogs affair to keep it on budget.
  • Go Southern with a spread of ribs, chicken, beans, and cornbread.
  • Fill in the menu with potato salad and coleslaw.
  • Serve a baby shower cake in the shape of a horse or a large horseshoe that says "Good Luck!"

Coed Baby Shower Games
The difference between Coed Baby Shower Games and games geared for the all-girl gatherings is that you have to take the cute factor down a notch and maybe turn up the action.
Diaper-A-Thon

The object of this game is for teams to compete to see who can diaper a bunch of oddly shaped things from a box to a balloon the fastest.

  1. Set up 2 long tables with 3 to 5 objects to be diapered: teddy bear, balloon, box, baby doll, and toy truck.
  2. Place a disposable diaper next to each object on both tables.
  3. Divide the party into two teams and have each team line up at the end of a table.
  4. On "go" a member from each team goes down the table diapering each object.
  5. When he or she is done, the next team member follows and un-diapers the objects.
  6. The next team members follow diapering and un-diapering until all team members have gone.
  7. The team that completes the diaper-a-thon first wins the game.

Baby Bottle Guzzle

This classic "frat boy" game is great for a baby shower.

  1. Fill baby bottles with liquid, preferably non-alcoholic, like juice, milk, or ice tea.
  2. On "go" the players drink the liquid just like the babies do, through the bottle nipple.
  3. The winner is the player that empties his or her bottle first.

The Babywed Game

This game is a take off on TV's "The Newlywed Game" where the expectant mom and dad answer questions independent of each other in hopes of getting the same answer.

Compile a list of 10 questions such as:

"Who will be the first to wake up in the middle of the night when the baby cries?"

"What will be the baby's first word?"

"Who will be the stricter parent?"

  1. Have the expectant parents sit in chairs at the front of the party with the emcee (your funniest friend) in between them.
  2. Give mom and dad each 10 or more pieces of paper, a clipboard, and a black marker.
  3. The emcee asks the question and the mom and dad write their answer on a piece of paper.
  4. The emcee asks the parents to hold up their answers for the crowd to see and if the answers match, the parents get a point.
  5. This game is pure entertainment with no winner and a perfect activity when everyone is eating cake!
