Fun New Year's Eve Party Games

Put the happy in "Happy New Year's" by engaging guests in some fun New Year's party games. If guests are reluctant to join in, bring them a drink of their choice to loosen them up. Everyone will be having a blast in no time.

Two Resolutions and a Lie
Everyone makes New Year's Resolutions. Have guests share theirs as a fun icebreaker.
1. When guests arrive at your party, hand them a piece of paper with lines numbered one through three.

2. Ask them to write their name at the top of the paper, and jot down two real resolutions they have for the new year, and one fake resolution.

3. Pick an empty wall to tape up each person's sheet of paper once they have filled it out. Let guests mingle, check out the board and have some laughs, and after a few drinks have everyone tell the other guests which one of their resolutions is made up.

New Year's revelers will inevitably end up singing this classic song after the ball drops. But who really knows the lyrics, and who is mumbling along to the song?
1. Print out the lyrics of Auld Lang Syne on a full sheet of paper.

2. Use whiteout to strategically blank out one word on every second or third line of the printed out song.

3. Photocopy as many copies as you will have guests at your party. Hand out the copies and plenty of pens, and ask guests to fill in the lyrics for the song.

4. At the end of the night, award guests with a small trinket for the Most Creative Lyrics, the Most Incorrect Lyrics, and the Most Correct lyrics.

Preparation
  • Auld Lang Syne Lyrics:

    Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
    Should old acquaintance be forgot,
    and old times since ?

    CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
    for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
    for auld lang syne.

And surely you'll buy your pint cup !
And surely I'll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
    for auld lang syne.

    CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
    and picked the daisies fine ;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
    since auld lang syne.

    CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
    from morning sun till dine† ;
But seas between us broad have roared
    since auld lang syne.

    CHORUS

And there's a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o' thine !
    And we'll take a right good-will draught,
    for auld lang syne.

    CHORUS

This old-school spin on the popular Rock Band game will test your guest’s musical talents.
1. Before the party, buy small party packs of kazoos, hand-crank noisemakers and party blowers. Also get out two large pots at home and two wooden spoons.
2. Print out the Billboard's Top 10 Most Popular songs of the year.

3. Split guests up into two teams - these teams make up the two dueling rock bands.

4. Have half the team man the "instruments" - kazoo, party blower, noisemaker and "drums" (pot with wooden spoon) - and have the other half of the team be the guessers.

5. Choose one of the top ten songs and assign it to the band by whispering it to the players manning the instruments. Make sure the guessers don't hear the song you've given them.

6. Give the rock band one minutes to play the song while the other half of their team tries to guess. Then, do the same with the other team and keep track of how songs each team accurately names. It will cause a racket, and a lot of laughter!

Champagne Bulls Eye
This game is costlier and messier than the others, but it works well for small, intimate gatherings and takes quite a bit of skill!
1. Purchase enough mini champagne bottles so there is one for each guest.

2. Purchase a large bulls Eye board you can hang on the wall or from a door.

3. Break guests up into two teams, and have them take turns popping their mini champagne bottles, with the goal of hitting the bulls eye. Make sure guests go individually so you can track where the cork hit's the bulls eye and keep track of points. Award the winning team with party favors like noisemakers, shiny top hats, or New Year's glasses.
