 Inexpensive Romantic Birthday Ideas
Celebrate Romance on Your Birthday!

Time is perhaps the most precious gift one can give to a loved one. We all know it, but actually taking the time to create something special for the birthday man or woman in our life is seldom done.

Think about "spending time" as opposed to "spending money" and budget accordingly with these Inexpensive Romantic Birthday Ideas.

Tips

Create a Walk of Surprises in Your Neighborhood
Suggest a birthday walk around the block where you've planted many a surprise for your unsuspecting loved one.

Make Her Feel Special

  • Scope out the area first and come up with places where you can hide a poem on paper, place a flower in a mailbox, or stash a trinket under a rock.
  • Get your neighbors in on the plan if possible. Maybe your first stop can be next door where you grab a quick drink.
  • Plant your surprises when the time is right. About 5 items are plenty.
  • Take your walk and lead the birthday girl or guy to the surprises with simple phrases like, "I wonder what's under that rock" or "Let's check the neighbor's mail." A bit corny, I know, but very sweet!

Romanticize Your Home
Surprise the birthday guy or gal with inexpensive romantic touches around the home for them to find when they come home from work, picking up the kids, or a day of shopping.

  • Scatter a rose petal path in your home's entryway. No rose petals around? Try other botanicals from the garden such as a simple aisle made of leaves or greenery.
  • Dim the lights and place candles in various rooms.
  • Play a selection of tunes from his or her favorite artists.
  • Think of the birthday person as a guest in their own home and set out a plate of appetizers.
  • Greet the guest of honor with a cocktail or beverage at the front door.
  • Place a homemade birthday card on his or her pillow and rose petals all over the bedspread.

Have a Picnic at "Lover's Lane"
When was the last time you "parked?" Find a scenic overlook, pack a picnic basket, and get cozy like they did in the good old days.

  • Choose a safe spot with a beautiful view where you can park your car and have a little picnic in the front seat.
  • Buff up your car so it's nice and shiny for the big night.
  • Organize the inside of the car to include personal touches that may not fit in a picnic basket such as an ice bucket in the back seat or a small tray table.
  • Pack smart with individual size containers that you can eat out of and car-friendly drinking glasses.
  • Remember a selection of romantic music CDs to create an atmosphere of amour and a little bud vase with a flower.
  • Consider making a sign that says "Lover's Lane" and posting it outside the car.

Set Up a Home Spa
When you enter a professional spa, aromas and a serene atmosphere immediately overtake the senses and put one in a "mood." You can easily create the same sensual ambience in your home.

  • Turn the living room into a tranquil spa space by floating flowers and tea lights in small bowls of water and placing them on tables. Place arrangements in the bathroom as well.
  • Fill a pitcher with sparkling mineral water and limes slices as a refreshing drink. Set out wine glasses to add an elegant touch.
  • Dim the lights and play peaceful music.
  • Draw a warm bath and season it with aromatic oils, bath salts, or add an abundance of bubbles.
  • Fold and roll towels to make them look like a pro spa's presentation.
  • Create a display of "pampering products" such as small bottles of lotion, a gel eye mask, and other spa items that many have in their bathroom drawers but rarely use.

Romance Your Paramour Online
If you have access to a computer and the Internet, romance can be a simple click away. Start your own email campaign during the week of your paramour's birthday by sending a romantic email each day or making a short animated love story video.

  • Mark your online calendar to remind yourself to send a romantic birthday message each day.
  • Send an email with a personal photo of the two of you on the first day.
  • Send an animated greeting card on the second day.
  • Send a digital blooming flower bouquet from Bokayme on the third day.
  • Send or link to a fun video that you've created on Xtranormal, a cool website where you type in text for 3-D characters to say in an online video, on the fourth day.
  • On the fifth day, pick up the phone and wish your loved one "Happy Birthday!"
