One of the most challenging aspects of hosting a kid's birthday party is planning how the guests will fill their time. Sure they'll run around for a while, but what about that hour or so after everyone arrives, leading up to the time when the birthday cake is served?
Here are some easy game ideas to keep the kids entertained.

Forget Musical Chairs--play a game of Freeze Dance and get everyone on their feet and moving to the beat!
More Kids' Birthday Joy

Kids' Birthday Party
- Throw a Firetruck Birthday Party
- Give your kid a Pizzeria Birthday!
- Wii Party - fun for kids and the whole family also.
- Explain to the kids that the idea of this game is that everyone dances when the music is on and must freeze when the music stops.
- Those who don't freeze are eliminated from the game.
- Throw in some tricky moves like, "Hop on one leg to the music," or "Dance like a monkey."
- The winner is the last person standing in the game!

Hunt for items that fit your party theme, like gold coins at a pirate party or wrapped candy for any event.
- Hide items for the hunt in your yard or somewhere in the party space.
- Pass out goody bags for guests to collect the items.
- On "go," guests search the yard for the items to take home as party favors.

Pass a traditional baton for this relay race or a thematic party item such as a magic wand for a princess party or a football for a sports party. For younger kids, use a soft item as the baton.
- Have teams line up behind a starting point.
- Determine a "run to" point that is a straight shot from the starting point.
- Give each team a relay baton.
- On "go," the first player on each team races to the "run to" point, then back to the starting point.
- The relay baton is handed off to the next player on the team who races to the "run to" point and back, handing off the baton to the next runner and so on.
- The team who completes the relay first wins.

Not only are balloons festive birthday party decor, they are also ideal for children's birthday party game playing!
Birthday Party Invitations for Kids

- Popular Cartoon Character Themes
- Princesses and Fairytales
- Fun & Game Themed Invitations
- Superhero & Pirate Theme Party Invites
- Cake Time! Invitations
- Blow up a bunch of round balloons.
- Ask guests to form teams of four people and give each team a balloon.
- On "go," music is played as team members bounce a balloon to each other using whichever body part is called out.
- For example, if "head" is called out, team members must bounce the balloon to each other with their heads, or if "foot" is called, they must only use their feet.
- If the balloon hits the ground, that team is eliminated.
- Determine the length of time each round will be played, such as one minute, and pause the music after that time to give the kids a little break.
- The team whose balloon does not touch the ground during the game wins.

Who doesn't love the old "Guess how many jelly beans are in this jar" game?
Instead of one big jar full of candy, give every child a chance to win by using baby food jars or small see-through containers filled with items.
- Collect an assortment of small food-friendly see-through containers or jars. Get one container per party guest.
- Fill each jar with different items such as M&M's, jelly beans, gummy bears, Tootsie Rolls or small toys.
- Count how many items are in each jar and write it down.
- Set the jars around the party. Place a pencil and a sheet of paper next to each jar with the headings "Name" and "Guess."
- During the party, guests write their name and their guess on the sheets of paper next to each jar.
- The person whose guess is closest to the actual number of items in the jar wins it.
- If one person wins twice, give them a choice of which jar they would like and award the other jar to the runner-up.
