Any kids' party with Simba and his friends is sure to be wild and fun. At this Lion King themed party, all the kids are kings (or queens) of the jungle when they make crowns among a forest of paper vines and plush animals. Add lion-faced cupcakes and animal-themed snacks while watching movie clips. "Hakuna Matata" means no worries, and you won't have any after following our plan for a Lion King theme party.

Invitations announce the theme of the party, so let your guests know with cards featuring friendly lions and jungle colors. Though not specific to the Lion King movie, the following invitations do have lions and capture the party mood.
- Tiny Prints Roaring Lion card features a teeth-baring animal on a muted green background.
- A sock lion image and polka dots give a playful feel to invitations from Invitation Monkey.
If only actual pictures of Simba and other movie characters will do for your invitations, custom is the way to go. Use the Plan Your Party feature to upload movie stills and other images to create your own personalized Lion King invitations.

Cupcakes are always an ideal choice for kid birthdays. When you can decorate them perfectly to coordinate with the party theme they are always a hit. At a Lion King birthday party, serve cupcakes that look like lions minus the roar, of course.
To create lion cupcakes, first bakes the cakes using a recipe of your choice including straight out of a box. The major impact from the cupcakes comes from the decorating. Here are three different techniques for making lion faces, each successful and sure to be a hit.
- Coconut Mane Lion Cupcakes Shredded coconut and candy facial features make these lions more funny than fierce.
- Gumdrop Lion Cupcakes With a base of yellow frosting, a row of orange gumdrops and a few jellybeans completes the look of these cute lions.
- Fondant Lion Cupcakes Create a layered look with smooth fondant and cookie cutters.
- Buttercream Lion Cupcakes With a mane made from yummy buttercream frosting these are the sweetest lions you'll find.

Send little Lion King fans home with a bag full of treats they can use to recreate their own stories of Simba and friends. Here are some ideas.
- small plastic animal figurines (if age appropriate)
- snack-size bag of animal crackers
- container of Play-Doh and a cookie cutter
- paper lion masks
- custom crowns, if they made one during the party

A Lion King birthday party calls for jungle-themed decorations. As you plan, think about vines, animal prints and movie-related items to bring the jungle together.
- String green crepe paper streamers from the ceiling and doorways like vines. Or, make paper vines for a more realistic look.
- Break up masses of hanging vines with wild animal-print balloons.
- Make sure Simba, Mufasa, Nala and the rest of the Lion King cast make an appearance. Use plush characters to decorate the food table or to hang from vines.
- Cut animal (giraffe, monkey, elephant and bird) silhouettes cut from black paper to illustrate the animals walk into the jungle. Use these on a blank wall, a puppet theater or a tablecloth for the food table.

A showing of the Lion King film is a logical choice for a birthday party, but a two-hour movie doesn't leave much time for anything else. Instead, play the movie in the background or in clips as kids eat cupcakes. You will still have plenty of time for one or more of these Lion King party activities.
- Stage a puppet show. Use movie character toys to act out scenes from the movie. Kids can even join in to put on their favorite scenes.
- Set up a crafts table. Kids can make lion masks and gold crowns, and then pretend to be the next Lion King.
- Create modeling clay. Give them animal cookie cutters, containers of clay, such a Play-Doh, and let them make their own little jungles.
