 Modern Baby Shower Games
Celebrate the Gift of Life

Ah, shower games -- a time-tested part of the baby shower tradition. Unfortunately, some of those games can be pretty embarrassing, or, even worse, kind of lame.

Instead of forgoing the tradition altogether, which may disappoint some guests, opt for fun and laid-back shower games like the ones we've suggested below:

  • Splurge with a super-soft blanket. Once the baby is born, get his or her birthday and initials monogrammed onto it.

  • Get creative by crafting a baby diaper "cake" with diapers tiered and tied with ribbon.

  • Go eco-friendly by purchasing the mommy-to-be a year's worth of cloth diaper cleaning services and a personalized eco-friendly tote to use as a diaper bag.

Baby Attire
The Premise: Guests bring pictures of themselves as a baby and everyone has to guess which baby picture belongs to whom.

Preparation
  • Supplies:

    • Baby pictures
    • Numbered place cards
    • Paper & pens

Steps
  • On the invite, make sure you ask the guests to bring a baby picture of themselves. The game works best if you specify that the photo was taken before age three -- otherwise it can get too easy.

  • Collect the baby pictures as the guests arrive, shuffle them and lay them out on a large table.

  • Put numbers in front of each picture. Ask guests to go around and write down on which guest goes with which baby picture. Whoever has the most right answers, wins.

  • Give the winner a fun prize!

Mommy-To-Be Trivia
The Premise: Ask guests trivia style questions about Mom when she was a baby.

Preparation
  • Supplies:

    • Whiteboard or chalkboard
    • Trivia questions

Steps
  • Before the party, ask the grandmother-to-be questions about what the mommy-to-be was like as a child. Include questions about her favorite toys, foods, colors, activities, etc.

  • Ask the trivia questions during the shower and keep score on a whiteboard. If the bridal shower is large, break people up into small teams.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
This game is sure to get everyone into the conversation.
The Premise: Guests share the best and worst parenting advice they've ever heard.

Preparation
  • Supplies: None, unless you'd like to have guests write their tokens of advice down on a piece of paper for the expecting mom to keep.

If you're going with the written option, you'll need the following:

    • Baby-themed stationary cards
    • Pens
    • Scrapbook or journal to collect the advice cards in for the future mom.
