There is no better way to celebrate the Academy Awards than with a Oscar party channeling the glitz and glamour of Hollywood's heyday.
Plan a successful Oscar party with these ideas for a glamorous event with lots of unique touches.
- Start the party at least an hour before the awards show begins. You and your guests can enjoy appetizers, drinks and conversation before the focus turns to the night's big winners.
- If weather permits, host your Oscar party outdoors. Broadcast the awards show using a couple of big screen TVs.
- Save money on a full bar by serving one or two signature cocktails. Choose your drink based on favorites of the era such as a chocolate martini or cosmopolitan. Of course, you still need enough champagne to last the night.
- Have a stash of vintage star props - feather boas, sunglasses, cigars and hats - for guests to wear. They are sure to inspire fun photo opportunities.
- Even though watching the Academy Awards is the main event of the party, consider a simple trivia game to go along with the show. As awards are given out, ask guests for names of classic movies or stars that have previously won.

Decorations for an Old Hollywood Oscar party need to convey style,sophistication and glamour. Go with a palette of gold and silver pluspops of red, and it is easy to recreate the vintage movie star scene.
- Roll out the red carpet for guests as they arrive for the party. If you can't find an actual red carpet, buy a long piece of red felt instead.
- Create over-the-top centerpieces by putting ostrich feathers or marabou plumes in Eiffel tower vases, and fill them sparkly faux gems. Set out miniature Oscar statues around each vase.
- Hang black and white photos of Old Hollywood stars or movie posters of classic films.
- Use lush arrangements of velvety red roses on drink tables, the buffet and stands around the big screen.
- Create sparkling signage by covering chipboard lettersfrom the craft store in gold glitter. You might use them to spell out,"Welcome," in the entryway or "Drinks," over the bar area.
- Dim the lights, and set out lots of candles in mirrored votive holders.
