 Party Etiquette Tips for Pets

Your pets are adorable, cuddly and loving. They cheer you up when you are feeling down, always keep you company and provide endless affection.

But, not all of your holiday guests will be comfortable around your pets, and being a great host means making all visitors feel welcome. We have created a guide to pet party etiquette that will have even the most animal-tentative guests enjoying themselves.

Guests can't enjoy themselves while sniffling, itching and sneezing. Here are some great ways to minimize allergens.
1. Dust and vacuum all surfaces throughout your home thoroughly before company arrives. This will remove the majority of hair and pet dander that causes allergies.

2. If a guest's allergies are severe and you are hosting them for an extended period of time, consider getting a professional carpet cleaning done or rent a carpet steam cleaner from a local hardware store and do it yourself for less.

3. Keep pets in one room in the home, where guests will not be present, for the duration of the party. Bring their favorite toys, treats, and a comfy bed into the room to keep your pets occupied.

Keeping your pets separate is good for them, as well as your guests. New visitors to the home can cause stress or guests may over-feed your pet with party treats. Setting up a designated place for your pets will help everyone enjoy the festive occasion a bit more!

Pet Etiquette Tips for Eliminating Smells
Avoid guests associating your home with funky pet odors by being proactive about eliminating smells. ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda is the simple solution for keeping pet odors under control, and it's safe for use around animals.
Here are a few ways you can keep your home smelling fresh for guests:

  1. Litter Boxes: Keep your cat's litter box smelling fresh between litter changes by sprinkling in ½ cup of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda to eliminate odors.
  2. Deodorize Pet Bedding: Eliminate odors from pet bedding by sprinkling liberally with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda, waiting fifteen minutes, and then vacuuming up.
  3. Clean Pet Toys: Clean plastic and rubber toys by washing in a solution of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda (4 tablespoons dissolved in 1 quart warm water). Give plush toys a dry bath by sprinkling baking soda on dry toys and thoroughly brushing off after 15 minutes.
  4. Dry Bath for Dogs: If you run out of time to fully bathe your pets before a party, safely deodorize their fur with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda. Simply sprinkle it onto their coat, gently rubbing it into their fur. Then thoroughly brush out for an odor-free pooch.
