Throw a "Wedding Cake Wars" Premiere Party

Mix one part competition, two parts frosting and three parts talent to get the recipe for WE tv's irresistible new TV special "Wedding Cake Wars." Premiering on Sunday, September 20th at 10 pm (9 pm Central), "Wedding Cake Wars" follows the journey of three cake makers in their quest for gum paste glory at one of the nation's largest wedding cake competitions.

Massive amounts of wedding cake calls for a celebration, which is why this television event is the perfect opportunity to gather the girls for a night of frosting-laced fun. We suggest hosting a premiere party for your favorite ladies complete with a precious potluck bakery and adorable favors. Looks like Sunday night just got a whole lot sweeter.

"Wedding Cake Wars" Premiere Party Drinks
A table full of cakes requires the right beverages to pair them with. Since the party food is already sweet, avoid sugar comas by plying guests with coffee, espresso, iced tea and tart lemonade. Incorporate the drinks with the bakery décor by pre-pouring tall glasses of iced tea and arranging them in long rows down the middle of the bakery table.

Add a touch of whimsy to the beverages with custom DIY stirrers made from small printable circle labels glued together around the top of a plain wooden stirrer. Phrases like "Refresh," "Enjoy," and "Drink Me" are perfect for topping the stirrers and can be printed in fun colors that echo the bakery theme.

"Wedding Cake Wars" Premiere Party Decor
For a premiere party revolving around cake, there is no better way to get guests excited than to ply them with irresistible sugary snacks. Turn your kitchen into a professional bakery with sweet treats piled high on platters and cake stands.

Creating A Bakery

  • Gather as many platters, cake stands and tiered dessert trays as you can. These are the basis for recreating a cozy in-home bakery for the premiere party.

  • On the premiere party invitation (or via email), ask each guest to RSVP with their favorite sweet treat that they plan to bring to the party, as well as the recipe for the item. Make it clear that there should be enough servings for everyone to have a taste.

  • Print out small bakery cards on thick card stock that describe each cake, cupcake and cookie as well as who brought it for the premiere party.

  • Once guests arrive, transfer their baked good to one of your cake stands and place the bakery card in front so everyone knows what they are digging into and who whipped up each masterpiece.

  • Accent the bakery table with small votives, cute cocktail napkins and a stack of small plates. Voila! Instant bakery, in the comfort of your home.

"Wedding Cake Wars" Premiere Party Favors
Bid guests adieu with a homemade "Sweet Dreams" favor package. Design and print a mini "Domestic Goddess" recipe booklet that is a compilation of the desserts guests enjoyed during the party. Paper Source is a great place to purchase colorful card stock in just the right size for a mini booklet, and also has the punches and binding tools you can use to professionally assemble your Domestic Goddess books.

Use a double-wrapped length of bakery twine to tie each guest's recipe booklet on top of an empty bakery style take-home box, and affix a tag inviting guests to grab a late night treat to go. It's a splendid way to spread the foodie love to spouses and children who missed out on your fabulous "Wedding Cake Wars" premiere party.
