 Twilight DVD Release Party
Twilight DVD Release Party

Twilighters get ready to rewind, pause, and be dazzled by the dreamy, undead Edward Cullen (played by Robert Pattinson) over and over again--the DVD is being released at midnight on Saturday, March 21st.

This kind of release is rare since DVDs usually hit stores on Tuesday, so take advantage of it and throw a movie-watching party that immortals would approve of!

Read on for tips about how to re-create the look of the Twilight cast, serve blood-thirsty treats, spot fun facts in the movie, and more.

Worried that you won't get your DVD in time? Pre-order the DVD on Amazon.com and you'll get an e-mail code that lets you watch the movie instantly on release day from your computer, courtesy of Amazon Video on Demand.

In case you haven't been bitten yet, the Twilight saga is based on a series of novels by Stephenie Meyer.

Girls flocked to the movie--which made over 60 million dollars in its opening weekend alone--to watch 17-year-old mortal Isabella Bella Swan move to Forks, Washington and fall in love with Edward Cullen, the most mesmerizing vampire around.

For fans who can't get their fill of the Cullen clan, don't fret--The Twilight sequel New Moon is currently being made into a movie and will be scheduled for a late 2009 or early 2010 release. Catherine Hardwicke, the director of Twilight, will not be working on the sequel.

Find a Twilight DVD Party Near You
If you would rather not host your own Twilight party and want to mingle with fellow Twi-hards, use these options to find a bash located near you:

  • Attend a Party at The View Point Inn in Portland, Oregon at 5 p.m. on March 21st.
The famous location where Bella and Edward went to prom and had their romantic moonlit dance in the movie is hosting a Twilight party for $50 a person. The ticket includes a multi-course dinner, screening of the DVD, non-alcoholic beverages and a gift.

The View Point Inn also has a special package for $125 where you can receive all that and more, including a brick in the twilight walk of fame, a twilight flashlight and a twilight t-shirt. Check out TheViewPointInn.com for more details.

Forget wearing a black Count Dracula cape with red velvet lining—the Cullens are an impeccably dressed clan. Follow these easy tips to recreate their seductive big screen look:
Makeup:
  • Use white powder to make your face as pale as possible (makeup artist Jean Van Phue used MAC blot powder/pressed in Light). Don’t go overboard—the idea is to make your skin look luminescent.
  • For a diamonds-in-the-sun sheen like Edward, mix moisturizer with a dab of silver body glitter and rub it on your body or use a product like MAC Strobe Liquid.
  • Pat some dark eye shadow underneath your eyes to make them look dark and brooding. Eyeliner is a must!
  • Click on the YouTube video clip to learn how to create a vampy Bella Swan makeup look.

Hair:

  • When it comes to hair, take a cue from Bella and use a hair curling iron to create bouncy, romantic ringlets.
  • Guys comb your hair straight up and be prepared to use tons of hairspray to get Edward’s coif!

Clothing:

  • Dress up in dark, muted colors like gray, black, and brown. The characters wear a lot of jeans in the movie, so rock your favorite pair with a slim-cut t-shirt and finish off the look with a textured blazer.
  • Bonus: Make Bella’s signature trinket that she wears in the books by purchasing a wolf charm and a crystal heart charm to hang on a bracelet.

Twilight Movie Playlist
Music is an important element in the Twilight movie and author Stephenie Meyer listened to certain tracks over and over again while writing the series. Use songs from both the official Twilight movie playlist and Meyer’s personal recommendations to create the ultimate playlist for your party.

Meyer's Playlist:

1.  "Why Does it Always Rain on Me?" — Travis
2. "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" [video edit] — My Chemical Romance
3. "Creep" [radio edit] — Radiohead
4. "In My Place" — Coldplay
5. "By Myself" — Linkin Park
6. "Dreaming" — OMD
7. "Please Forgive Me" — David Gray
8. "Here With Me" — Dido
9. "With You" [reanimation remix] — Linkin Park
10. "Time is Running Out" — Muse
11. "Dreams" — The Cranberries
13. "Lullaby (Goodnight, My Angel)" — Billy Joel

Twilight Movie Playlist:

1. "Supermassive Black Hole" – Muse
2. "Decode" – Paramore
3. "Full Moon" – The Black Ghosts
4. "Leave Out All The Rest" – Linkin Park
5. "Spotlight" [Twilight Mix] – Mutemath
6. "Go All The Way" [Into the Twilight] – Perry Farrell
7. "Tremble for My Beloved" – Collective Soul
8. "I Caught Myself" – Paramore
9. "Eyes on Fire" – Blue Foundation
10. "Never Think" – Rob Pattinson
11. "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" – Iron & Wine
12. "Bella’s Lullaby" – Carter Burwell

Twilight DVD Release Party: Menu
Edward and the rest of the Cullen clan are “vegetarians” because they don’t drink human blood, so be sure not to serve any meat dishes at your DVD Release Party. Instead, cook veggie dishes that Bella eats in the movie, such as mushroom ravioli and garden burgers.

Round out your Twilight menu with some blood-thirsty mocktails and cocktails, plus cupcakes so cute, you (almost) don't want to eat them.

Twilight Menu:

More Twilight Cupcake Ideas:

1. Glitter Cupcakes: Frost cupcakes with black sparkle icing.

2. Figurine Cupcakes: Use a lion and lamb figurine to top a cake or cupcake.

3. Photo Cupcakes: Purchase edible photo icing of Edward and Bella online and put it on the top of the cupcakes.

Create Twilight Movie Décor
Transform your home into a vampire abode and use these easy tips to create creepy yet sophisticated decorations that will set the mood for your Twilight DVD party.

Decorations:
  • Use a red and black motif for the party since vampires crave darkness and blood. Drape a black tablecloth over your table and scatter silver glitter (which shines like Edward's skin) around the table.
  • Place red apples in two clear bowls to serve as part of your centerpiece, which references the book covers of the Twilight series.
  • Buy a bouquet of white ruffled parrot tulips and put it in the center of the table, in between the apple bowls. This is the flower that is on the cover of the Twilight sequel New Moon.
  • Purchase candy blood bags and set them out on the table for guests to sip on during the movie.
  • Light lots of scented lavendar or freesia candles and place them around the room, since scent plays a big part in the movie and Edward has to control his impulse to bite Bella.

Set the Mood for Vampire Romance:

  • The movie was shot in Portland, Oregon, where it’s often overcast. Use fog machines to add mystery and intrigue to your party.
  • If you want to really make a statement, buy life-sized Edward and Bella poster stands. It’s a great excuse for a photo opp and Twilighters will finally get the chance to get their hands on Edward!
  • Use the significant line “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb” as inspiration for decorating your Twilight party by downloading a free card template, courtesy of AmbrosiaGirl.com. Take it to your local copy center and make a huge poster for your party.
When the filmmakers tried to change this classic line, author Stephenie Meyer fought to keep the original quote intact since so many girls have tattooed it on their ankles.

Twilight Movie Quote Frames:

  • First, download the official Edward and Bella fonts from BellaAndEdward.com. Then type some of your favorite quotes and put the pieces of paper in red or black picture frames. Hang the frames throughout your party space.
  • Don’t forget to use the movie tag line: “When you can live forever, what do you live for?”

More Movie Quotes to Use as Inspiration:

  • “I know what you are. You're impossibly fast…and strong. Your skin is pale white, and ice cold. Your eyes change color, and sometimes you speak like you're from a different time.”
  • “I'd never given much thought to how I would die, but dying in place of someone I love seems like a good way to go. I can't bring myself to regret the decisions that brought me face to face with death. They also brought me to Edward.”
  • “About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.”
  •  “I dream about being with you, forever.”
  • “Is it not enough, just to have a long and happy life with me?”
 “Yeah, for now.”

  • “It's like diamonds...you're beautiful.”
  • “I'm the world's most dangerous predator, Bella. Everything about me invites you in.”

"Dreaming of Edward": Twilight Sleep Mask
Author Stephenie Meyer says that the idea for Twilight came from a dream, and in the movie, Edward watches Bella while she sleeps.

Even though vampires like Edward don’t need to sleep, every human girl needs her beauty rest. Make silky “Dreaming of Edward” sleeping masks as fun favors for your Twilight DVD party.

    Craft adapted from FamilyFun.com.

    Preparation
    • Materials:

      • Paper (for the template)

      • 9- by 12-inch sheet of flexible, self-adhesive black felt, such as Presto Felt

      • Scissors

      • 1/4 yard of satin

      • Hot-glue gun

      • 3 (10-inch-long) pieces of 1/4-inch-wide black elastic

      • Silver puff paint

      • Craft glue or clear adhesive dots, such as Zots brand

      Time needed:
      About 1 Hour

    Steps
    • To start, draw a sleep-mask shape on a piece of paper or trace our 8- by 3 3/4-inch template. Cut out the template.

    • Affix the felt to the back of the satin. Using a pencil (we used a marker in the photo for visibility), lightly trace the template onto the fabric 3 times, then cut out the masks.

    • For each, hot-glue the ends of a piece of elastic to each side of the felt and allow it to dry completely, about 3 minutes.

    • Use the silver puff paint to spell out “Dreaming of Edward” on the sleeping mask.

Twilight DVD: Fun Facts, Movie Mistakes and Bloopers

Test your vampire knowledge with other Twi-hards at your party!

We’ve got the inside scoop on how Robert Pattinson got his songs on the movie soundtrack and other interesting factoids about the film. See if you can spot bloopers like Edward’s beating heart and other sneaky visuals that made it into the movie.

If you’re craving more behind-the-scenes info, check out the book Twilight: Director's Notebook written by Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, which will be released on March 17th.

    Twilight Movie Fun Facts:

    1. For the role of Edward Cullen, Robert Pattinson flew from England to director Catherine Hardwicke's house to audition. There, he and Kristen Stewart, who was already cast as Bella Swan, rehearsed the "Love Scene"/"Meadow Scene" on Hardwicke's own bed.

    2. Actress Nikki Reed was the one who got the producers to add Robert Pattinson’s songs to the film. Reed secretly started recording him from her laptop, while he was singing, and playing his guitar.

She then took it to the film producers, were they fell in love with his songs. The next day, they asked Rob if he could sing a few of his songs for the soundtrack, and he accepted.

    3. The song playing on the background when Bella comes to "have dinner" at the Cullen's is the aria "Libiamo" from La Traviata. "Libiamo" literally means "Let's Drink,” which is exactly what the Cullens do when they "have dinner.”

    4. At the cafeteria salad bar, Bella drops an apple which Edward picks back up and then cradles in his hands, copying the cover image of the Twilight novel.

    5. Author Stephenie Meyer can be seen next to a laptop ordering a vegetarian sandwich in the diner at the beginning of the scene where Charlie asks Bella if she likes the boys in town.

    6. In almost every scene involving a television, the ending ballet studio scene is being played.

    7. When Bella is looking up the Quileute mythology book she finds a listing for a bookstore in Port Angeles. Under this tab there is a list of other places to get the book, like Amazon.com, including "Little Brown," which is the publishing company for the Twilight series.

    8. At the end of the movie when Bella is sitting on the bench prior to prom, Jacob offers to help her since her foot is in a cast. Edward says to Bella "I leave you alone for one second and the wolves descend."

This is a veiled reference to the fact that Jacob is indeed a wolf, which you find out in the second book "New Moon.”

    9. When Mike and the rest of the boys at Forks High School are trying to get Bella's attention in the lunch room, Jessica remarks that Bella is like "a shiny new toy." This is a direct line from the first chapter of Midnight Sun, a book that is "in the works" by Stephenie Meyer.

Midnight Sun is Twilight told from Edward's perspective. The first chapter and rough draft that leaked over the Internet are posted on Stephenie Meyer's website.

    10. Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale) and Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale) learned how to play baseball left-handed for the famous baseball scene.

    Twilight Movie Mistakes and Bloopers:

    1. In the cafeteria, when Bella drops the apple and Edward catches it, he has visible pit stains. It should be impossible for him to have these stains because vampires don't sweat.

    2. In the scene where Edward and Bella are lying in the grass, you can see Edward's carotid pulsating. This goes against the 'Twilight' books, which state that vampires do have hearts, but they don't beat.

    3. Throughout the film, various vampire's faces are paled out with makeup, but not their ears and necks. In one of the cafeteria scenes, Robert Pattinson's ears are extremely red, which goes against the idea that vampires shouldn't have any color in their faces or bodies.

    4. Throughout the movie you can see the vampires' breath. In the book, Edward states they can breathe because it enhances their ability to smell and helps them blend in as "normal," but you would not be able to physically see their breath because they have no actual body warmth.

    Twilight Baseball Game
Play baseball before you watch the Twilight DVD, just like the pivotal scene in the movie when the Cullens have a game before they meet the evil vampires! Thankfully, thunder and stormy weather conditions aren't necessary for mortals.

Wear matching "Team Edward" jerseys or sweatshirts. CafePress.com has a good selection of Cullen baseball gear.
