Fall is nature's bounty of beauty. A farmer's market, green market, or fruit and veggie stand offers as many fresh decorating elements as a flower shop!
The best way to celebrate all that nature has to offer is to incorporate all aspects into your home decorating, party decor and gift giving. Use these great ideas to transform veggies into vases.
Best yet, it is a perfect addition to your Thanksgiving decor!

How To:
1. Choose a squash that stands up nice and straight in a size that works for you.
2. Cut off the top of the squash.
3. Scrape out as much of the squash as you can, being careful not to get too close to the outer skin. This is a little hard to do, so just be patient.
4. You can either fill the hole with water and arrange the flowers or use a small piece of floral foam cut to fit the opening. Foam works best with flowers that have firm stems, such as roses, carnations, and poms.

The asparagus vase is always a hit! Everybody loves it and it's so easy to make.
How To:
1. Simply take the rubber band from around a bunch of asparagus and put it around a clear beverage glass.
2. Take a stalk of asparagus and place it between the rubber band and the glass. Continue until the glass is totally covered - this usually takes about one bunch of asparagus.
3. Cover the rubber band with a ribbon, raffia, bandana, napkin or whatever you may have around the house.
4. Fill the glass halfway with water and arrange with flowers of your choice. In this image I used Black-Eyed Susans right out of my garden.

The artichoke is really a natural vase. Again, using what's in season, I decided to go with dahlias and lavender. Using fresh lavender sprigs as accents make it smell delicious too. Here are some simple steps to follow to create your own artichoke arrangement:
How To:
1. Cut the bottom stem so that the artichoke sits flat.
2. Separate the topmost petals and remove the heart (obviously the artichoke hearts are edible so that should not just be thrown away).
3. You can place either a shot glass or glass votive holder into the cavity you just created.
4. Either fill with water or a piece of wet floral foam cut to size.
5. You can now create your arrangement!
