Cinco de Mayo is a much-loved holiday in Southern California (where I live) and across the nation. Much of the love comes from the abundance of Tequila that flows in honor of this Mexican Independence Day as celebrated in the U.S.A.
Mexico's official day of independence is actually September 16th, and Cinco de Mayo, which translates to May 5th, commemorates when the Mexican Army defeated French troops on this day in the 1862 Battle of Puebla.
