He's Good for More than Just Carrying theGifts

If you want to throw an unforgettable bridal shower filled with fun and surprises, you have to be willing to consider these quirky alternatives. Typical bridal showers usually consist of bored guests, frustrated bridesmaids and bewildered brides-to-be. And don't forget the poor groom whose job consists of lugging the gifts to the car. Hosting a couple friendly wedding shower, complete with fresh games and trendy gift ideas, will make the happy couple shine even brighter on their big day.

Gift Tip

If you are on a strict time constraint or the bride-to-be is particularly shy, ask each guest to wrap their gifts in clear, plastic gift wrapping. That way, the gifts can be on display during the bridal shower but the bride can open them in the privacy of her own home. This also makes the groom feel more included in the gift opening process.

A Lingerie Wishing Well

String a clothes line with decorative clothes pins across a large wall or hang it from the ceiling of the party.

Ask each guest to bring an item of lingerie along with their regular gift to the bridal shower.

The panties, bras and teddies make for racy decorations and the bride-to-be will have lots of sexy new treats for the honeymoon!

You can also give each guest a "lingerie theme" in their invitations (try tinyprints) and get a few laughs over their interpretations.

For example, let Grandma Mildred be in charge of purchasing the Valentine's Day Lingerie or crazy Aunt Jade be in charge of Wedding Night Lingerie. Beware: the groom's mom might bring in feety pajamas.

Centerpiece Sensation

Decorate the tables with framed pictures of the bride and groom throughout childhood in similar poses. Ask for help from grammar school friends, old teammates, summer camp pals, etc. Match funny pictures of the bride and groom from the same era and place them in a double picutre frame.

Examples:

His junior high football picture alongside her Pop Warner cheerleading picture

His most embarrassing school picture alongside her braces/glasses phase

His newborn hospital picture alongside her first time in the tub

His first car picture alongside her prom picture

His mullet alongside her perm

The frames will make for great keepsakes for the future bride as she attempts to decorate their first home as a married couple!

Time Out
Better than Bridal Bingo Games

Steps
  • If you're having trouble deciding which guests get to go home with the main centerpieces on each table, this game is perfect.

  • When it comes time for the bride-to-be to open her gifts, hand her a cooking timer and tell her to close her eyes while she twists it to a random time.

  • As soon as the timer rings, the bride must announce whose gift she is opening.

  • The lucky guest is the winner!

How Well Do You Know The Bride?

Steps
  • Have the maid-of-honor or mother of the bride come up with a list of 20 obscure questions about the bride. Some great examples are:

  • Who was the bride's first kiss?

  • What is the bride's natural hair color?

  • Where did the bride and groom go on their first date?

  • Type the questions and print a copy for each guest on cute stationary (check out Staples or Kinkos). Tell the guests to fill out the questionnaire at the beginning of the shower. At the end, have the bride reveal the correct answers. Whoever answers the most correct is the winner.

  • If you want to add a fun twist to this game, ask the groom-to-be's mother, sister or close friend to write up 20 obscure questions about the groom.

  • Turn the tables on the bride and quiz her on how well she knows her future hubby.
