With fall vegetables and a little creativity, you can create a beautiful blooming centerpiece without a single flower.
Supplies:
1 or 2 Wide, low baskets, containers or vases to hold the centerpieces
Enough florists foam to fill the containers you are using (to create a base)
3 Squash
1 bag of green beans
1 Purple cabbage
10 radishes
4 Beets
5 Large carrots (not baby)
Parsley and Rosemary for "grass" and fillers
1 bag of long wooden skewers
Instructions:
1. Using a lot of creativity and a little bit of cutting skills, create different shaped petals and flowers from the vegetables. 2. Cover the floral foam with the parsley and shoots of rosemary. 3. Carefully slide the wooden skewers through green beans to create flower stems. 4. Attach the various flower heads to the tops of the skewers, and insert the bottom ends of the stems into the parsley-covered floral foam for stability. 5. Repeat, inserting stems of various heights and flowers until you've created an even arrangement. Create a stylish and festive table with candlelight and reminders of the season.
Stylish Fall Colors Tablescape
Stylish Fall Colors Tablescape
Create a stunning Thanksgiving centerpiece that will satisfy your most stylish guests. It's a simple yet effective design that's a cinch to throw together.
Supplies:
12-15 Candles of varying heights. Colors should range from ivory and light yellow to a deep amber.
Large Maple Leaves, enough for 2 per guest, plus an extra forty or so for the table.
1. Create a scattered line of forty maple leaves down the center of your dining table (lengthwise).
2. Place the Manzanita branches on top of the maple leaves, down the center of your dining table so they create one long line spanning its length.
3. Intersperse the different colored candles along the offshoot branches, mixing heights and colors. Add a layer of floating cranberries at the top of the water-filled hurricane vases, and add a floating candle in the middle of the berries.
4. Place one maple leaf underneath each guest's clear glass plate. Tie the napkin on top of the plate with the brown twine, and tie the second maple leaf in with the twine's knot.
5. You can even write guests' names on the second maple leaf in lieu of place cards.
Craft a Cornucopia
Craft a Cornucopia
Turkeys aside, the cornucopia is practically the official mascot of Thanksgiving. Give the turkeys a break this year and decorate your dining table with the beautiful symbol of abundance and sharing.
Here's how:
Supplies:
One large horn basket
2 yards of Fall colored ribbon (red, orange, yellow or brown)
An assortment of about 20 different gourds, pumpkins and dried corns.
Brown Raffia-style packing straw
Instructions:
1. Tie your ribbon around the widest part of the horn (closest to the opening) and make a large bow at the top. You might have to interweave the ribbon with the basket to keep it in place. 2. Create a good-sized "nest" at the bottom of the cornucopia basket using the straw. 3. Arrange your gourds, pumpkins and corn so it appears to be overflowing out of the cornucopia. 4. Once you've put the cornucopia in its final decor location, arrange a few more gourds on the table around the horn so it looks as though a few have toppled out and are littered around the basket.
