Journey to the Center of the Earth Hunt

Inspired by the official movie website's online games, we created a scavenger hunt where guests form 2 teams and use a compass and clues to find a list of items related to the movie.

Hunt Items

Purchase a set of items like these for each team:

  1. Petrified wood
  2. Fossils
  3. Quartz crystals
  4. Lava rock
  5. Faux diamonds
  6. Plastic dinosaur bones
  7. Mini dinosaur eggs
  8. Petrified dinosaur food
  9. Glow dinosaurs
  10. Mini plastic dinos!

After the hunt, place all items in a grab bag for guests to take home as favors.

Game Prep:

  • The party host creates 2 separate hunts for each team.
  • The teams will be searching for the same list of items hidden in different locations.
  • Clue example: Head Northwest and you will find something shiny from a mine.
  • Clue answer: Diamond.

How To Create Each Team’s Hunt:

  1. Grab a compass, paper, pen and the items for the hunt.
  2. Start from a central location in your yard.
  3. Walk to the first place where you want to hide an item.
  4. Note the direction on the compass and write it down.
  5. Hide an item and note the item.
  6. Walk to another area, note the direction, hide an item and note the item.
  7. Continue until all items are hidden.
  8. Repeat the process for the other team’s hunt.
  9. Go back and write clever clues on a sheet of parchment paper for each team.

How To Play:

  1. Guests form 2 teams.
  2. Each team gets a compass and their clue sheet.
  3. Teams assemble at the starting point and begin.
  4. The team that finds all items first, wins the game.
