Princess Parties work best for girls ages 5-8. For other amazing kids party ideas, check out our Birthday Party section. It includes fun themed ideas such as a Farm Party, Circus Party and VIP Celebrity party, as well as great ideas on creating invitations, favor packs, balloon arches and more!
Décor
As far as décor goes, you'll want to use things that evoke royalty, magic, and medieval times. Try to pick decorations based around the little princess's favorite color and deck your home. Pink and purple are safe bets since most little girls adore those colors.
For moms who don't mind an art project, you can create a wonderful castle to hang on the wall. First, find an outline drawing of a castle online. Parents can use this to re-draw the castle onto a few connected pieces of butcher paper or foam core board (available at a local art store).
If your sketching skills are rusty or nonexistent, use your computer to enlarge the image until it will print out on multiple pages. Make sure you number the pages before printing so you know how to tape them together and create the castle! Finally, you can paint the castle yourself, with your daughter, or leave it for the party princesses to paint as a fun activity.
Extreme Castles
If you want to get extra crafty with your castle, consider building the frame for the castle with large boxes. Once the frame is up, glue the foam core or paper castle drawing to the front for a larger-than-life 3-D castle.
For interior décor, buy pink and purple pillows and plenty of feather boas. Place the pillows on dining room chairs so each princess can have her own princess throne for the party. You can also go to a party store and buy giant mylar princess balloons for decoration.
For an eco-chic solution to decorating, buy an inexpensive pink sheet set and tuck it into your couch as a slipcover, or drape it over the table the princesses will feast at during the party. It's washable, reusable and has endless potential uses.
If you're hosting the party in an outdoor area, cover bushes, trees or walls with a blanket of twinkling white lights to create an enchanted setting. You can find these super discounted at your local Michael's, craft store, or dollar store. Or, simply go to The Find.com and type in "twinkling white lights" for a list of online sources who sell them.
