Summer is a time when families can come together, relax and forget the stresses of school for a few months. While many families take advantage of the summertime to reunite with families or head off on family vacations, it's pretty expensive to getaway as a family nowadays.

Rather than hitting the road for a few weeks, consider hosting a reunion-like party for your family and friends at home.

Luaus are a classic summertime party theme that's also family-friendly. Make the celebration your own with some creative ideas. One of the most popular tropical ingredients used in food and drinks is a not so little fruit we call the pineapple, so it should comes as no surprise that this juicy fruit shows up in almost every luau element - from the food to drinks and even to the games. Not that we're complaining - a Pina Colada, cocktail or mocktail, sounds good no matter what day of the week or time of year!
