Pay tribute to the signature style of all the Sex and the City characters in celebration of their new movie! Host a Sex and the City Fashion Swap Party for an upbeat theme party!

Invite guests to bring wardrobe items that they no longer wear, but are reminiscent of Sex and the City fashions, to swap with other party guests.

What Is a Fashion Swap Party?

At a Fashion Swap Party, each guest brings an item or two of clothing, accessories, or jewelry from their own collection that they are willing to part with.

We’re not talking about junk drawer leftovers or back-of-the-closet threads. These items should be in good shape and still have a current style.

Because this party is based on Sex and the City, the items should be inspired by a character from the show. Given the varied styles of the characters, this should be easy.

After a couple of cocktails, each guest gets up and gives a “sales pitch” about their items while the other guests take notes. Then, the swapping begins!

How A Fashion Swap Party Works

To organize this fashion fete:

Invitations

• Explain the party concept in the invitation (try Tiny Prints for fun invitation designs)

• Suggest items apropos of each SATC character’s style (see below)

• Enclose tags for guests to write descriptions of their items on prior to the party

Set Up

• Arrange your party space with chairs around a “swap presentation” area

• Find a mannequin or similar form for item display during the “sales pitch”

• Set up a clothing rack and table for all to park their items, as well as a floor-length mirror

• Stock up on extra hangers, clothes tags, and safety pins

• Have a small notebook and pen for each guest to jot down their fave fashions

Swap Steps

1. Each guest receives a number when they arrive at the party.
2. Numbers are chosen at random to determine whose turn it is to give their pitch.
3. The guest pitches their item explaining which Sex and the City character the item is based on.
4. Everyone takes notes during the pitch presentations.
5. When the pitching ends the swap begins!
6. The guest with the #1 (the first guest to arrive at the party or the host) gets first pick of the items.
7. After guest #1 chooses an item to take home, guest #2 is up.
8. When everyone has had a turn, guests can swap with each other or you can start again with guest #1 if there are more items.
