Team Spirit and Style Buffet
Give your buffet style and spirit by dressing it up in team colors.
- For a blue and gold color scheme, skirt the table in shiny blue metallic spandex, accented by amber gold stretch satin on the tabletop.
- Metallic pompoms will add sparkle around the perimeter of food risers, and football candy dispensers create a crowning touch.
- Stuffed Pizza Burgers are perfect for a Super Bowl party, complete with a food spread that sports a pizza-topping bar of condiments and garnishes.
- A great set-up for multiple items, like toppings, is “bleacher style,” where the food is on stepped-up risers to give the buffet some height and visual interest. A detailed how-to is below.
Football Field Inside
- Bring the football field on to the TV room coffee table, and place Super Bowl snacks right on the 50-yard line! With team colors proudly displayed on the buffet, go for classic, gridiron party décor in the TV room.
- A football field tablecloth and football party ware on the coffee table will give your snack spread that home team advantage throughout the game.
- Sporty inflatables are a big hit at any Super Bowl party, especially when they double as drink coolers, such as a football goalpost cooler or mini-stadium beverage bin.
- Spark conversation with novelty items like blinking football ice cubes, or thematic bottle coozies. Max out your TV room with plenty of props, to help your crowd cheer their team on to Super Bowl victory. See my ideas for Halftime Fun and Games to make your own Super Bowl event.
- Think “tailgate” for outdoor décor, to let guests know that your home is the party zone. Typical tailgate decorations are big and bold, as they are meant to be seen amidst a sea of cars in the stadium parking lot.
- Mark your Super Bowl party with a bunch of team color and football-shaped Mylar balloons, in front of your house.
- Instead of running out the morning of the event for balloons, pick up a small helium party tank to fill them up.
- Welcome guests with a Game Day door banner and get the party started the second they step foot into your home.
For an 8x3-Foot Dining Room Table
Preparation
- 5 yards gold fabric (58\\\\\\\" width) for tabletop and risers
- 9 yards blue fabric (58\\\\\\\" width) for the table skirt and risers
- Straight pins
- 24x40-inch plywood board (1/4-inch thick)
- 16x30-inch plywood board (1/4-inch thick)
- Staple gun & staples
- Books to give risers height
- 2 dozen blue and gold pompoms
Steps
- Cut a length of gold fabric to fit your tabletop, allowing for an approximate 6-inch overhang on all sides. Place the gold fabric on the table. (Pro Tip: You may want to tape the ends of the gold tabletop fabric to the underside of the table, as it tends to slide around while skirting.)
- Cut a length of the blue fabric to fit around your table for a table skirt. The length of fabric should be the same measurement as the perimeter of your table, plus a couple of inches for overlap.
- Use straight pins to attach the blue fabric to the gold fabric. Fashion this however you wish, by folding over the top edge or pleating the fabric, to ensure that the pins don't show, and the skirt has a nice drape to the floor.
- Cover the plywood boards in blue or gold fabric, and staple the fabric to the board's underside to secure.
- Pile books in the center of the table to make a 2-inch high support for your bottom riser. (Pro Tip: Encyclopedia books work great, as they are identical in size and a couple of books is all you need for a sturdy base. Bricks are a good alternative to the books.)
- Place the 24x40-inch plywood board on the books. Pile more books, 2 inches high, in the center of the bottom riser, and place the 16x30-inch plywood board on top of those books.
- Arrange pompoms around the perimeter of the bottom riser.
- Place football candy dispensers at the four corners of the top riser.
- When ready to serve, set your platter of Stuffed Pizza Burgers on the top riser. Place bowls of burger toppings on the bottom riser, around the outer edge. Put Maple-Bourbon Glazed Chicken Wings, and platters of pasta, potato, and green salads on either ends on the table, along with team color plates, utensils, and napkins.
