Have you heard of Nintendo's Wii? This home game phenomenon, Wii (pronounced "we") is the latest trend in kid's party activities. Instead of sitting on a couch with a joystick, Wii operates with a remote controller and your TV in a way in which players physically "act out" virtual games as if they were playing them for real.Beats the bowling alley party and it's the perfect Kid's Birthday Party!

Last summer, my 9-year-old son attended a Wii party. I had no idea what it was, so I stayed and played until my son banished me! It was awesome. Soon after, I found out that not only is Wii a hot kid's party theme, it's a popular family night activity too. My family played a sports game package with players ranging from age 4 to 65 and everyone had a great time!.

  • There are plenty of cool disposable plates and napkins with sport designs for Wii Sport games, or opt for a rock & roll theme if "Guitar Hero" or karaoke are your games of choice. For Wii Lego fans, get into the action with Star Wars party supplies!
  • Go for the cool factor with party favors. Try thematic light-up novelties like an LED guitar lanyard or flashing cell phone necklace.
  • Or stay techno-centric with a nominal amount gift certificate for an Itunes download.
  • If you are hosting a birthday party, as opposed to playing Wii on family night, snacks on a stick are a good idea. Guests can grab a bite during the game and there’s less chance of greasy hands on the remotes (especially if they are borrowed).

Organizing your Wii Birthday Party Games
If you don't already have a Wii, borrow or rent one for your next birthday party or family fun night. A great party game that keeps all ages entertained.

1. Console: Purchase or borrow a Wii console.

2. Remote Controllers:
Round up at least 4 remote controllers. Ideally, you should have 1 remote per guest or players will have to take turns. If you are limited on remotes, consider setting up an additional gaming system, like PlayStation, in another room and monitor the time each player has on the Wii to be fair.

3. Games:
Purchase or rent a variety of games that will appeal to your crowd. Sports games are a good choice for most kid's parties and "Guitar Hero" is popular for all ages! You'll also find Wii games with trivia, karaoke, and carnival themes.

4. Game Room Set-up:
Move all the furniture out of the party room.

5. Wii Set-up:
Follow the directions to connect Wii to your TV and sync the remotes.

6. Make Miis:
Create a Mii character for each guest.
