Tabletop décor, drinks, and dinner recipes

In the first part of our Winter Wonderland Party article, we provided tips to make your décor look and feel like Winter. Now it's time to decorate your table and whip up a couple of easy drink and dinner recipes.

Tabletop Décor: Creating the Perfect Feast

There are so many great ways to bring winter to your table, which include bringing the colors, smells, and texture of the season indoors.

Color Schemes

  • Use a color scheme of blue, silver, and white with accents of brown at the dinner table.
  • Blue shimmer tablecloth and brown napkins are a perfect combination.
  • Use your silver flatware.
  • An added touch would be clear or blue wine glasses and water goblets.

Smells

  • Use cut greenery from your own outside bushes to make your own winter arrangement.
  • Be sure to use different types of evergreens like boxwood, western cedar and juniper.

Textures

  • Combine an assortment of votive candles, faux snow and pillar candles that are white, blue, silver or brown for the table décor.
  • Use the back side of magnolia leave to add brown accents.
  • Berries and branches create a superb texture that can be used in the arrangements or rested on the table with votive candles nestled within them.
  • Place the greenery in glass vessels or containers found around the home.
  • Vary the size and shape of containers.
  • Apply faux snow to the greenery and subtly style it around the candles and branches as well.
  • Add glitter or small rhinestones to the faux snow for that true glistening snow effect.

Food and Beverage: Winter Cravings

As the front door opens and the guests enter your home, offer

  • Warm, mulled apple cider with a cinnamon stick as an accent, served in small servings.
  • Serve White Russians (recipe below) in addition to your usual cocktail recipes.

For the kids as well as adults, be sure to include a Hot Chocolate Bar with fresh whipped cream, chocolate shavings, mint sticks covered in chocolate and marshmallows. The marshmallows can be found in blue as well as white.

For dinner, make a meal that reminds you of winter. This might mean a turkey or a ham, chili, or grandma’s secret beef stew, but whatever it may be, make sure it brings back your memory of a winter feast.

For dessert create the Ultimate Ice Cream Bar with berries, chocolate, hot fudge, granola, and various candies and toppings. You may also serve macaroons and coconut balls for added decor. Don't forget holiday cookies as the perfect accompaniment.

This party combines great atmosphere, warmth, crisp colors, good food and drink, and most of all, the beauty of Winter with the warmth of being indoors with family and friends. The décor will bring your Winter Wonderland to life and is sure to impress your guests!
