To celebrate our little girl's first year, we looked to a favorite song and her nursery decor for inspiration. We often sing the chorus of, "You Are My Sunshine," to lull her to sleep and a colorful print with those words hangs in her yellow room, so the sunshine theme developed naturally. It makes for the perfect idea to base her 1st birthday party around.

I pulled a sophisticated yellow and gray color scheme from the song's lyrics and kept all the party supplies and decorations in these colors for a simple, cohesive look.

To help prevent yellow and gray burnout, I chose a variety of patterns and textures when shopping for the party.

Gray polka-dot fabric-turned-tablecloth was my first purchase, and it provided the perfect backdrop for all the decorations and serving pieces.

It also established a slight vintage feel to the party, which I enhanced by using yarn and paper doilies for embellishment throughout the rest of the party decor.
