Whether you're a fan of the holiday or not, Valentine's Day is around the corner and there's one gift we know ANYONE out there is going to love. It's not flowers, it's not chocolate and it's not a teddy bear holding a heart. NO. It's cupcakes. And we received a super sample of cupcakes from Saint Cupcakes to test out. They're delicious, freshly baked cupcakes that you can send to your sweetie, best friend, daughter - WHOMEVER! - and they get to decorate the cupcakes themselves...and of course eat them, too.

Ok, onto the review! Now, I am not as easily impressed with cupcakes as many other people I know - a cupcake has to be light, yet moist; flavorful, yet not overpowering; equally balanced by both cake and frosting - for me to rave about.

Well, dear readers, allow me to RAVE. These little cupcakes were AMAZING and SO cute. I'll be honest - when I opened the box I thought, OK, they can't look this good AND taste scrumptious as well! I was wrong.

So, the short of it - here's what I thought about Saint Cupcakes' Valentine's Day treat -

  • Yes, it's the day of love, but for any cupcake fan opening this box is like a belated Christmas gift. My eyes widened and my stomach did a flip. Even my taste-testing partners (the rest of the CB crew - Jon, Nell, Julie and our intern Courtney) were fans - and they're not nearly as in love with cupcakes as I am.
  • Opening the plastic wrap around each cupcake proved to be a bit difficult (maybe it was just because I was unnaturally excited) - but either way - totally worth the hassle. The aroma that filled my office tortured me for hours later. It was like I baked a batch in my oven.

  • The cupcake kit comes with individual cupcakes - which makes trying a variety of flavors beyond easy - I highly recommend their Vegan Red Velvet. Didn't even know it was vegan until I was tossing the wrapper. The kit also comes complete with individually wrapped frosting for the perfect dollop on each cupcake as well as a selection of sprinkles, colored sugars, etc. and themed toppers.
  • Helpful Hint - We loved the red velvet and chocolate cupcakes, but weren't a fan of the toffee.  And as for frosting - the cream cheese and chocolate buttercream we're an all around hit. I enjoyed the coffee buttercream, too.

Final Verdict - Two Frosting Covered Thumbs Up!
