Dadchelor Parties?

Father's Day is around the corner, but that's not the topic of conversation here at Celebrations today. Instead of talking about dads, we're buzzing about soon-to-be-dads.

That's because we just got wise to a growing trend - Dadchelor Parties. Ever heard of them? Until this morning, neither had we.

Dadchelor parties are sort of the equivalent of a baby shower for women, but whereas the mom-to-be is showered with gifts from close family and friends, the guys-only party is more about toasting the dad-to-be and a sort of farewell to him, too. The idea is once baby arrives, daddy gets sucked into a black hole of diapers, bottles and sleepless night, never to hang with the guys again. Parties range in intensity, but all involve some level of drinking, sports and gambling, which is pretty much what most guys do before they get married, too, hence "dadchelor" parties.

We want to know what you guys think of these dadchelor parties. Do they hit on an unacknowledged truth of fatherhood? Or, are they kind of a fun, over-the-top celebration that's more of a joke?  OR is this just a plot line for Hangover 3?

Well, guys and gals...share your thoughts!

Around here (Michigan) they are called diaper parties and typically to gain entrance to the party, attendees are to bring a package of diapers and will be thanked in return with food and adult beverages for the duration of the party.
