Celebrate This: National Candy Day

Who doesn't like candy? I mean, c'mon, really? Whoever says they don't is either telling a wicked lie or is suffering from the after effects of scarfing down a pillowcase worth of the stuff. Whether silently or symphoniously, you are sure to rejoice when I tell you that today is National Candy Day, a day that needs little introduction and a whole lot of celebration. Before you make a beeline for the candy aisle, take a peek at the sweet treats our brilliant bloggers have in store. Here we have three DIY twists on three classic candy bars, in addition to a thrifty (and tasty) way to use up all that leftover Halloween candy—assuming that there is any!

Don't tell the folks over at Hershey's, but I'm absolutely gaga for Baking and Boys' recipe for Homemade Tootsie Rolls. I cannot help but wax nostalgic each and every time I bit into a chewy, chocolaty roll, so I can imagine that making them in the cozy comfort of my own kitchen would be all sorts of wonderful.

Next up is a joyful recipe for Almond Joys from Joy the Baker. These sweet and crunchy candy bars combine chocolate and coconut like no other dessert quite is able. Just whatever you do don't forget the almonds or you'll have a whole mound of trouble on your hands.

You might want to break out the dental floss for this next recipe, 'cos things are about to get real sticky! Homemade Butterfingers—especially those from the kitchen of Lola Pearl Bake Shoppe, are sure to make little hearts sing and channel everyone's inner Bart Simpson.

And now, what you've all been waiting for, a chance to transform all of your remaining Halloween goodies into a dainty dessert of smashing sophistication! My Man's Belly employs chocolate alchemy to create these miniature morsels otherwise known as Truffles.
