Celebrate This: Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day

There's not much to say about an occasion so specific and straightforward other than chocolate and almonds are a killer combo that have inspired a wide range of delicious desserts from the ordinary candy bar found at every corn store candy aisle to the decadent tortes served up in some of the finest dining establishments found around the world. Setting my sights on only two ingredients in particular, chocolate and almonds, I managed to come across four very different recipes that handle the nuts and chocolate in four very different ways. Find your favorite dish and serve it to your other half, whether they are the chocolate or the almond in your outfit.

We've already established the chocolate and almonds are a match made in culinary heaven, but throw fruit into the mix and you just might hear an angelic choir. This first heavenly recipe comes form Learning to Eat and does a swell job bringing chocolate to the breakfast table as only Europeans are able to do. These Chocolate-Almond Apricot Biscotti are a great way to start or end the day, satisfying that sweet craving without pushing you overboard into a sea of sweetness.

Laid-back lollies get a subtle makeover when put in the capable hands of Take a Megabite. These Smoked Sea Salt, Almond and Bittersweet Chocolate Lollipops are a handheld treat few can resist. Perfect for showers or any gathering that brings mixed company.

You gotta love a good torte, and this fudgey, almond-topped Torte from Belly Up truly takes the cake. Originally created for an Easter celebration, this tasty torte transcends seasons with its dense chocolate base and rich hot fudge topping.

I don't want to say I left the best for last, but this next recipe for Bittersweet Chocolate Dulce de Leche Tart from Hungry Rabbit is a picture-perfect example of the wonders almonds and chocolates can create. An espresso-dulce de leche filling is a treat to be had, and a sea salt sprinkled topping, now, that's just gilding the lily!
