I'm really excited to be sharing my tips for hosting a fall celebration on a budget.  Although this party set up was styled as a fall party, all of these tips can be carried over in to any season.

This inspiration shoot was originally created for a contest on budget entertaining.  After completing the shoot, I found out the contest was void in my state.  The contest's loss is your gain as I tell you how I was able to create this look for $75 including food and wine.  I will say that I am a bit of a party supply hoarder so that certainly helped with the budget, but I have tips that will certainly help you plan a great party, even if you don't have a garage full of amazing party pieces.

The inspiration for the party tables was the amazing brown, black and white fabric featuring soft pink birds from Ikea.  I liked that although the theme of the print is woodsy and rustic, aka perfect for fall, there was also this really unexpected element of pink in the design.  This fabric is versatile and liked that it could be glammed up or kept rustic, but hip. This fabric was left over from a previous project and was just begging to be used.

Fabric can be expensive.  At $8 a yard, the bird print is a bit pricey.  Depending on your budget and preference you could get away with using just 1 yard and still retain the feel.  I think I had about 3 yards of it and kept one piece really large to really show off the fabric. I rarely cut my large runs of fabric for a specific party, but try to figure out how to make it work and be able to keep it for other projects/parties in the future.  Also, try to pair your inspiration fabric with a cheaper complimentary or solid fabric (or already owned tablecloth, sheet, or plastic tablecloth) as I did on the dessert table.  Printed fabrics are a really great way to make a big visual impact.  Don't worry if you don't know how to hem.  Glue Lines are PERFECT for hiding a rough edge.
Another thing that I like to do is scan the fabric for my paper signs and other decor elements.  As you can see from this beverage sign, it utilizes a portion of the fabric's print and allowed me to keep the look cohesive.  Printing the scanned fabric on cardstock means that I can easily make food signs, framed signs, quick straw flags and stir sticks and so much more!

The first thing that I always do when putting together a party theme is go around the house (and of course my super stocked garage) and see what I already own that I can use as-is or with some minor changes.  We had several wood birdhouses around the backyard that we had bought for Father's Day from the craft store for about $1.00 each that fit in perfectly with the inspiration fabric.  I had also been given a bag of those cinnamon pine cones when someone was cleaning out their own garage that I knew I would be able to use for fall decorating.  But I really wanted to have a nice mix of rustic and shine so it was time for some quick do-it-yourself magic.  For the birdhouses, I simply used double stick tape along the front roof edges, then dusted them with gold glitter.  Such and easy project and it can be removed after the party.  For the pine cones, I used Continuous Glue Lines and haphazardly stuck them in a free-from zig zag pattern on the front.  A quick dust of gold glitter later and you've got a modern, glamorous pine cone.

As I mentioned before, I like to be able to reuse things.  So instead of spray painting all of the pine cones gold, I painted only 2. I placed them strategically against the natural ones so they would really stand out.  This also helps to keep the cost of paint down.  Spray paint can be expensive so if you can use it sparingly, you should.  I was tipped off that Walmart has the lowest price on spray paint and they have quite a variety of colors to choose from.  Some of the craft stores also sell smaller sized cans for just a couple of bucks.

I love using rope as a really simple garland and knew the texture would be another great rustic element to bring in for this shoot.  These ropes had been used a year ago for another shoot and already had the macrame knot in them.  I simply took some spray adhesive and glitter to add some sparkle.  Try to think of little things that you can do that are unexpected.  It is those small details that really wow guests!
Check back tomorrow for part two of this Fall party series where Sharon will share her budget food tips for your celebration!
