Celebrate This: National Guacamole Day

Today we celebrate the mean, green party-machine that hogs the tortilla chips like a bad buddy. Yes, I'm talking about guacamole, the best thing to happen to the snack table since disposable tablecloths, and a far better party trick than removing said tablecloth in one swift motion. This southwestern dip doubles as a condiment for salads, tacos and pretty much any dish that needs some extra oomph without the devilish caloric consequences of cream-based dips. While basic guac is enough to knock the socks off of guest all on its own, the recipes to follow are sure absolutely irresistible.

You've gotta love foods that come in their own dish—crab, bread-bowl soup, this guacamole recipe from Carnal Dish. Serving up this Cotija Cheese-Topped Guacamole right in the skin of the avocado is a great way to think outside of the bowl and cut down on waste.

Cool off a red-hot meal with this Cucumber Guacamole recipe from Choosing Raw. The light, refreshing flavor in the variation of the classic dip will round out a spicy meal and extinguish flaming taste buds.

If you party fears include double-dippers and finger-tasters, fret not this next one's for you! Debi Shaw of Table Talk brings us these sophisticated snacks that shrinks the communal bowl down to bite-sized bliss. Crispy Wanton Cups are host to a range of flavors including savory bacon jam, shrimp and of course, guacamole. A perfect teaser before a well-rounded meal, these dainty cups are sure crowd-pleasers.

We've talked the talk, but what you really want is a lot of guac. This next and last recipe from Kalyn's Kitchen delivers the goods on crunchy Tostadas for meatless Mexican-inspired dish piled high with cheese and fresh guacamole. Perfect for a small get-together or paired with post-work margarita.
