Celebrate This: Make Your Own Head Day

Even the best of us grow tired of living in our own head. Holidays like Halloween allow us to be someone else for a change, no questions asked, but once the season has passed we’re stuck in our head again for another 364 days. Today we celebrate a little-known holiday called Make Your Own Head Day, a holiday recognizes that sometimes you just want to have control over the head you live in and sometimes you like the one you have, but you just want to try something new. While I don’t have any ‘New Head Recipes’ to share and I highly recommend leaving yours on your shoulders at all times, I do have some fun ways to create some little heads and faces that no matter who you are and how you are feeling, they will always be right there smiling up at you and your head!

Let’s kick off this quirky holiday with an equally odd tradition from the Netherlands. These Lazy Bones Cakes as created by the This Chick Cooks are a fun and festive way to teach the little ones about world traditions, while honoring America’s own bizarre holiday.
The Japanese have been enjoying the fun and tedious art of Bento for a while, but recently it has become quite a food fad here in the states. Cleverly constructed lunches in all sorts of shapes and sizes add a bit of fun and flare to a boring meal.  It’s all smiles over at Meet the Dubiens family blog, where even stars and sandwiches wink at you just before you gobble them up. Putting a face on just about anything automatically makes it a bit more fun to eat!
This next idea comes from Bento Mama who also adds a smile to lunchtime with this blissful Bento Box. What a world it is where sandwiches smile and cheesy bunnies look up at you from their colorful little trays.

This next bento-ish idea is also sure to bring a smile to your face and your food. Give a hoot about what your lunch looks like and dress it up a la Rindy Mae and her outstanding Owl Lunch for kids.
