A brush embroidered cookie is a simple and elegant design that can be customized using virtually any color to complement the décor of a wedding, making it the perfect wedding favor. This customized treat is a great way to thank wedding guests for joining the happy couple in celebrating their special day.

The brush embroidered cookie is one of the most popular designs at SweetAmbs and can be done in a few simple steps.

Supplies:

Your favorite cut-out cookie recipe
Round cookie cutter
Royal icing
Food coloring
2 Decorating bags
Decorating tips 2 and 3
Square tip artist brush
Small container for water
Paper towels

Step 1) Bake Cookies

Prepare cookie dough according to the recipe. Roll out chilled dough and cut out circles. Bake and cool cookies.

Step 2) Ice Cookies

Make royal icing according to the recipe. Set aside a portion of the stiff icing to be used later. Color the remaining icing using blue and a touch of black to achieve the dusty blue shown here. Thin the blue icing down using water. Add a small amount of water at a time until the icing reaches the correct consistency. To test the consistency, take a spoonful of icing and drop it back into the bowl. It should take 10 seconds for the icing to settle.

Fill a decorating bag fitted with a tip 3 with thinned blue icing. Outline the cookie and fill in immediately. Work quickly so that the outline blends in with the rest of the icing. This way the outline won’t be visible when the icing dries.

Let the icing dry overnight.

Step 3) Brush Cookies

To prepare for brushing your cookies, have a small container of water ready along with a paper towel to blot your brush. Fill a decorating bag fitted with a tip 2 with stiff white icing. Pipe a flower petal using a zig zag motion to achieve a ruffled look.

Immediately dip your brush into the water and blot it on the paper towel. Using short, quick strokes, brush the icing inward. Work on one petal at a time so that the icing does not have time to dry before you brush it.

Repeat these steps for the inner petals.

The leaves are done in a similar fashion but, are piped without the zig zag motion. Once all of the brushing is completed, add flower centers, leaf veins, and dots.

If you’re feeling adventurous, try this method using unconventional colors. Black flowers on a white background make a bold statement. You can even accent the flowers with edible pearl dust to add some sparkle. Be creative and have fun with it. These brush embroidered cookies are sure to be a hit. Happy decorating!

Frosting sugar cookies. I would not have always said that, but since I started doing them, now I'm addicted. I've always wanted to try Amber's -- she makes her recipe sound so good, and of course they are stunning!
