When in Spain…

While in Madrid on vacation, I was surprised to find the eateries of a generally clean city, unsanitary. After days of dodging bustling bars with filthy floors, I spoke to some locals and learned that in Spain it is expected that you throw your garbage on the floor and at the end if the night it will be cleaned up.

So by passing up the littered local bars, I was actually missing out on the town’s best tapas. My last night, I happily tiptoed over toilet tissue and enjoyed the best cuisine yet, spitting every olive pit out onto the floor next to me.

For your next Spainish tapas party, why not scatter small bins for guests to toss their napkins in, and encourage them to spit olive pits, toothpicks, and fruit seeds into a garden or compost area, just for fun.
