Celebrations Circle: It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas

Even though we at Celebrations have been celebrating the holidays as soon as we finished eating that last bite of Thanksgiving Turkey, some of us still find ourselves looking for some last minute hosting and food ideas for the big day! It's no surprise that bloggers from all over are flooding the internet with tasty treats, festive foods, and Christmas crafts!

I love these cute oreo snowmen from Kitchen Fun with my 3 Sons. These will definitely add a festive touch to your dessert table. Most of my guests are bringing their little ones with them, and I know all of the kids will go wild for these!

Celebrate This: Festivus for the Rest of Us

A curmudgeon's holiday to say the least, Festivus is a day of rebellion and defiance against the commerciality of  the holiday season. This nonsecular holiday was invented by a weary father who had grown sick and tired of the muss and fuss of Christmas, and decided to institute his very own anti-holiday. The popular sitcom Seinfeld brought the Festivus spirit (or anti-spirit) into homes across the nation, and while its true origins state it can be celebrated whenever, it is Seinfeld that established December 23rd as its regular date of recognition. If you can get past the goofiness of the Costanza clan or the holiday's tagline "Festivus for the rest of us!" you'll find that there's a thread of truth behind this semi-fictional holiday, and even without a profound point in mind, Festivus is always worth celebrating.

Since the point of Festivus is doing away with all the holiday hoopla of Christmas, there are very few elements of its celebrations, but the ones that do exist are key:

Celebrate This: Welcoming Winter

Snow or not, the Winter Solstice is happening right here, right now! Yep, today marks the very first winter and whether or not it snows should have little effect on our plans to party down. For millennia folks all over the world have celebrated the shortest day of the year by holding festivals, religious ceremonies, and celebratory feasts. Not only is today the shortest day of the year, but it is, naturally, also the longest night of the year, which always means plenty time to celebrate with fellow your night owls.

Surprise: Happy Birthday Melissa!

Our editor Melissa's birthday is this week so we decided to surprise her today with a little office birthday celebration. We had Jon occupy her in a "meeting" while we set up the conference room for the big surprise. I made a few gingerbread cookies for the occasion and decorated them with a festive twist!

Celebrate This: Hanukkah

Whether you spell it Hanukkah or Chanukah, there's no arguing that today marks the first of 8 full days of the Jewish Festival of Lights. This age-old tradition honors the rededication of the Holy Temple in 2nd Century Jerusalem by the Jewish people, and while many of the traditions have remained the same over the centuries, there are many practices that have been modernized for the subsequent generations, much like that of Christmas or Passover. Whether you're new to Hanukkah's festivities or simply looking for fresh ideas for celebrating the ancient holiday, Celebrations has what you need to have a great eight-day celebration.

The Kardashians vs. The Celebrations Team: A Holiday Photo Face Off

The Kardashian klan released their holiday card photo to the public today and we couldn't help think the Celebrations team photo was slightly more, shall I say, cheery? Their super sad and serious photo pales in comparison to the Celebrations team photo from our holiday extravaganza last week here in our New York City headquarters. See for yourself:

Celebrate This: National Oatmeal Muffin Day

It's tough playing second banana to cupcake, which is why it's high time we celebrate the muffin, and all it's down for us as cupcake's often healthier and always under appreciated cousin. Today we celebrate a particular kind of muffin, the oatmeal muffin, a healthier and, in my opinion, tastier alternative to all that sugary nonsense kids cram in their mouths at breakfast time. Don't believe me? Take a look at these mega muffins our favorite bloggers have whipped up, and see for yourself!
