9 Random Acts of Kindness to Pay it Forward

This month, forget all the tragic events in life and try to make the world a better place - one random act of kindness at a time. Try to complete our 9 random acts of kindness to pay it forward and keep the good karma flowing.

With all the tragedy we hear about on the news and in the world, it’s hard to remember that there are still great people who exist out there. While some sulk over the devastation of what has occured, others are picking up the pieces and going around trying to help by providing random acts of kindness to those in need. This fall try completing these 9 random acts of kindness. You will not believe how good you’ll feel after sending a smile to people who genuinely appreciate it. See if you can complete these 9 random acts of kindness and the good karma will come flooding your way.

  • 1. Buy one, Give one

For your first act of kindness start by cleaning out an overly cluddered closet. Women usually have clothes in the back of their closets that haven’t been touched in years. Instead of saving those ensembles for a “what if” situation, donate them to your local church or Salvation Army. Make a deal with yourself that every time you purchase a new item of clothing, you will give an old one away. Guarantee you'll feel a lot better giving that old, unused sweater to someone who really needs it for warmth.

  • 2. Offer to Pick up an Elderly Neighbor’s Groceries

Whether you live in the city or in the suburbs there is always that one elderly neighbor you see everywhere. This month try offering to pick up that neighbor’s groceries and deliver them straight to their door. Save them that extra trip and allow them to relax at home. They are sure to be grateful for your act of kindness.

  • 3. Hand out Stress Balls

Everyone has intense moments of stress now and then -- some more than others. Pick up some stress balls for your friends or coworkers, or make some youself with this recipe Soleil Moon Frye made on Moonfrye.com. These stress balls may be the perfect pick-me-up people are looking for.

  • 4. Pay an Expired Parking Meter

Putting money in an expired parking meter is one of the simplest acts of kindness you can do for someone. If you’re shopping or just walking around town put a quarter in someone’s meter that has run out of time. Hopefully they will pass this kind act forward and keep the chain going.

  • 5. Make a New Friend

Making a new friend doesn’t have to be complicated. Simply say hello to someone riding the elevator with you or to a person you pass on the street each day. Even a simple act of kindness like this one can brighten up someone’s day. After all you don’t know what really goes on in a person's life and sometimes people just want to feel acknowledged.

  • 6. Leave Flowers on a Parked Car

Buzzfeed featured this creative act of kindness. A mother had her child choose a car in the Walgreens parking lot to leave a bouquet of flowers on. This nice surprise will leave someone with a big smile when they return to their car and you can hope that after you do this they will do it to another person.

  • 7. Bake some Goodies to Give to your Doorman

Doormen work hard protecting you by making sure no one enters unannounced. Don't let your doorman go unnoticed each morning. Saying hello and goodnight can be a simple way of making him aware that you appreciate his hard work. Reward your doorman this month by baking him cookies or buying him a bagel. This random act will be unexpected, but greatly appreciated…he may even share some food with you!

  • 8. Pay for the Person’s Coffee Behind You

My cousin actually had this happen to her at a drive-thru Starbucks one morning! It made her long and exhausting morning 100 times better and she even continued the giving by purchasing the person behind hers coffee. When an act of kindness is completely unexpected people become overwhelmed with thanks and hopefully pass it forward.

  • 9. Say “I love you” to Someone you Really Love

This last random act of kindness is so easy to do. Find someone you love and tell them. Tell them because you don't say it enough, tell them because you miss them, or just tell them to make them smile. “I love you” are three powerful words and, whatever the situation, they are guaranteed to brighten a person’s day if you say them with meaning.
