Around the World in 10 Drink Recipes

Allow me to bring you around the world in 10 different drink recipes! Now you can impress friends all summer long with these creative cocktails and knowledge of each country's (unofficial) national drink.

With summer fast approaching, I'm always on the look out for creative drinks to mix up all season long. This year, with the FIFA world cup taking place in Brazil, I decided to do some investigating to find the national drink of countries from all over the world. Here are some of my favorites!

  • Brazil

First up is the host country of Brazil! Their signature drink is called a Caipirinha and it includes sugar, limes, and a delicious sugar cane brandy known as cachaca. It is the perfect balance of sweet and sour.

  • Spain

Packed with sweet, fresh fruit and wine, sangria has grown into a popular drink all over the world but it's origin can be traced back to Spain. Try this low-cal sangria recipe for skinny sips all summer long.

  • Colombia

Aguardiente, also called “guaro,” is considered the national liquor of Colombia. An anise-flavored liquor derived from sugarcane, it is usually enjoyed as a shot but can also be used as a mixer in many delicious drinks like this Aguardiente sour, a traditional Colombian cocktail made with lime juice, orange juice and a bit of egg whites.

  • Italy

If you've never had limoncello before then what are you waiting for?! This delicious lemon liquor hails from the coast of Italy and can be used to make some amazing cocktails. If you want to try your hand at creating a homemade limoncello, follow this recipe and you'll be serving up some sweet drinks all summer long.

  • England

While there are many drinks that that you can make with gin, I think there is no better way to enjoy it than with a classic gin and tonic. If you'd like to try something a little bit more fancy, make this rosemary, cucumber and gin cocktail.

  • Belgium

Kriek, a cherry-infused beer, is a popular brew in Belgium and its sweet, fruit flavor makes it the perfect addition to some amazing drink recipes, such as this Kriek and thyme sour. For something to serve up at your next summer party, I recommend this peach lambic & rye recipe.

  • Greece

Ouzo is Greece's national drink and it is proudly made only made in Greece. How cool is that?! Ouzo is made with grapes, similar to wine, and has a strong licorice taste. Try these Ouzo Sunrise and Ouzo and Coke recipes for a delicious twist on the classic liquor.

  • USA

When it came time to chose a drink to represent the USA on this list, I had to go with bourbon. This American whiskey is used in endless drink recipes like this appropriately named Gold Rush. Just some honey, bourbon and lemon. What more could you need?

  • Japan

Sake is synonymous with Japan, and while this rice wine is a drink that is usually enjoyed on its own, you can also add it to recipes like this cucumber, lychee sake for a sweet summer drink.

  • Argentina

In Argentina, the national drink Fernet is enjoyed for all different occasions This dark, syrupy liqueur has a bitter, herbal flavor and can be mixed with ginger ale, coffee, and Coke. This Fernet and coke granita looks like the perfect drink to enjoy on a hot summer night.
