23 Cool Halloween Pumpkins to Carve

Carving Halloween pumpkins is fun at any age. While we might have squirmed and giggled as we removed the innards of our pumpkins as kids and rejoiced in our preteens that dad let us help carve with the special knife, we've now moved on to bigger and better designs.

There are some pretty awesome Halloween pumpkins out there and narrowing it down to our favorite 10 jack-o-lantern designs was tough. This roundup includes assorted techniques and skill levels required to craft these featured Halloween pumpkins, but all of our picks are among the ultimate of pumpkin carving.

  • It’s never Halloween without a “BOO” decoration. Princess Pinky Girl turned her pumpkins into a light up sign that does a great job getting their point across. Grab more pumpkins and you can spell anything out!

  • This cutie is simple and adorable to keep around the house this season. Woman’s Day used a few little pumpkins as feet, one oval one for the body and a carved face into a mid-sized pumpkin for their own elephant! What animal will you make?

  • Turn your fire pit into a pumpkin pit! These flame pumpkins will keep your fire pit under control while giving you some light and warmth on those cold autumn nights. Thanks Better Homes and Gardens for such a great and unique idea!

  • Carving some foliage onto your pumpkins’ like these leaf and flower pumpkins is a great way to bring the season into your carving even more, while also giving you a chic and grownup spin to your carving!

  • Mix up your carving all together and trade in your pumpkin for another festive treat. iVillage decided to carve up a gourd, and we’re just loving the outcome!

  • You don’t have to decorate your pumpkin with a face. Take one from this pumpkin designer and turn your carvings into haunted body parts. We like these skeleton hands because they look spooky pulling themselves out of the ground.
