DIY Holiday Gifts for Teachers

As the holidays fast approach, teaching your kids to give back to their teachers with a nice homemade gift will not only keep them busy with a fun crafting project, but really show your child's teacher that they are appreciated for all the work they do throughout the year.

Teachers will always get the same gifts: cookies or sweets, gift cards and school supplies. This year, try putting your own creative DIY holiday spin on your gift, and don't forget the kiddies can help with these projects! Don't be afraid to let them get involved, you can't do all the work.

Scroll through the projects in this gallery and let us know which one is your favorite!

  • Gift Cards

Gift cards are a great way to thank you child's teacher, but they are also very generic. Add you own DIY twist with this fun printable from Eighteen25. The kids can help attach the coffee sleeve to the print with double sided tape, stuff the gift card and tie some pretty twine around it to make a nice little package.

  • Sweets

No teacher can resist a homemade dessert, which is why these mason jar Santa cakes are a great individual gift. Have the kids help mix up a boxed cake. They will have fun adding red food coloring, watching it bake in the jar and decorating the outside with "Santa's belt."

  • Try something new and gift your child's teacher homemade cookie dough and add a festive touch from Our Best Bites. Kids can help whip up your family recipe in the kitchen and package it up nicely with decorative paper and ribbon. Make sure to include the directions!

  • Pamper

Teaching your kids to make homemade soap is a really fun and easy process. Candy cane soap is a festive and thoughful gift that any teacher would love to receive to help them unwind from a crazy student-filled day.

  • If your child's teacher is a woman, she may love a little spa package. This DIY manicure set is full of mini manicure tools, glittery nail polish and customized with her name. A great gift kids can help stuff and decorate with ribbons!

  • Another way to package a spa kit is to wrap it in a brown or nude colored washcloth and dress it up like a reindeer. Bumble Bee's Craft Den did a great job using pipe cleaners and other crafting tools. The project is so simple, your kids can definitely help by gluing and constructing the reindeer for their teacher.

  • Decor

Salt dough is the usual go-to when it comes to crafting ornaments, but we love these cinnamon applesauce hearts from Katy Elliott. This is definitely a kid friendly activity, but we can't promise it won't be messy! They can choose their own holiday themed cookie cutters and gift their teacher a truly unique ornament that will make their home look and smell great.

  • You could put together a simple mix of potpourri, but this simple mix of Christmas in a Jar from dandee is a great way to give your child's teacher a nice gift for their home. Full of spices and dried fruits, when heated, the medley of scents will really bring a lovely smell to their home, especially during a holiday party. Kids can help stuff the jars and decorate the outside for their teachers.

  • This one the kids can't fully participate in, but we love how beautiful these candles are. We found these lace candles over on Eddie Ross's blog and we fell in love with them! Eddie painted on paper and covered a plain candle with it to decorate a mantle, but with think with a little spray paint and a piece of lace, you can really glam up a plain white candle and make it a great gift without the adding wrapping.
