DIY Ideas for a Ducky Themed Baby Shower
Throw an adorable bash for the mom-to-be with these DIY ideas for a duck themed baby shower!
Baby ducks have long been a traditional theme for baby showers - they’re cute, gender neutral, and a wonderful symbol for new life. However, as any theme that’s been done a million times before, yellow and cute can get…a little bland.
That’s where this modern take on the traditional theme comes in. I used a graphic grey-and-yellow motif with pops of teal, to add a little more contrast and vibrancy to the party. The result was a fun and bright baby shower for one lucky mom-to-be!
On the tables, we kept with a simple set-up, using plain white table cloths and the chevron fabric as a runner. White plates were topped with simple circles of yellow scrapbook paper for a pop of color. A rubber duck with a ribbon around its neck and a stripy straw made a nice vignette. The table centerpiece was also made to be clean and easy; a painted rubber duck, a wooden letter, and vase of yellow and white flowers perfectly finished the table.
DIY Duck Glasses
Personalized duck wine glasses were set at each seat, which can easily double as a pretty party favor. Such a cute and simple way to dress up those drinks!
A Sweet Dessert Spread
For the dessert table, a series of inexpensively framed ducks created a bright backdrop. (Get DIY instructions for making the frames here). The table was covered in lengths of grey and yellow polka dot fabric, along with a contrasting white chevron fabric - both purchased at the local national chain fabric store. There is no need to do a lot of sewing for these types of temporary tablecloths and runners; just folding under the edges and ironing provides a hem good enough to bring the piece through a party.
Dessert samplings were all offered in our yellow, grey and white color theme: banana crème trifles served in martini style dessert glasses ; a selection of white candies in yellow metal buckets; and chocolate-dipped marshmallows topped with sugar ducks and pearls.
Tiny Ducky Details
White candies in yellow buckets were placed around the room and adorned with an adorable tag that reads “little babies are just duckie” to really bring the theme together.
The Gorgeous Grand Finale
The cake is a simply frosted lemon cake banded with satin ribbon. (Get the how-to for decorating your cake with a fabric ribbon here). White serve ware was chosen to go along with the color theme.
Sweet Treat Party Favors
The event ended on a sweet note with this DIY party favor idea that fit perfectly with the theme and color scheme. You can even use them to decorate by hanging several on a clothespin until it's time to send these cuties home with guests.
