Easy and Elegant Christmas Cocktail Party

A holiday cocktail party is a great way to welcome the season with friends and neighbors.

Serve bite-sized foods and a special drink for the occasion and keep in mind peoples busy schedules. You can limit the time to a couple of hours, or host it open house style where guests can come and go at their convenience. An important thing to remember is to send out those invitations early. Schedules fill up quickly this time of year!

This post was sponsored and inspired by Pear Tree Greetings, but the great ideas come from the creative minds of our contributors, not the advertiser. Inspire yourself and visit Pear Tree for Christmas cards , graduation party invitations and birth announcements.

  • The holidays have always been my favorite time of year. Historically, we have held a big cocktail party to celebrate the season, usually on the second Saturday of December. This year, inspired by the Christmas Holly Hurry Christmas party invitations from Pear Tree Greetings, I'm sharing a mini version of our classic party style which includes festive decor, tasty appetizers, and a signature cocktail.

  • The invitations are a combination of silver and gold with a hint of red. This inspired the party decor where I used gold wrapping paper as the backdrop to the food table. The print on the gold paper is very similar to the print on the invitation. Using a white base lets the colors and the food shine.

  • DIY plate stands hold a variety of hearty appetizers for guests to serve themselves.  A few pieces of ribbon placed on the table highlight each food item without taking up space. An acrylic tray is turned upside down and used as a riser. When decorating for your party, "shop" your home for items you can use in new and creative ways.

  • A circle menu card was made to resemble the invitations. A menu card is great for a buffet table as your guests can see at a glance what's available.

  • Food can also become an integral part of the decor. Goat cheese toasts are topped with roasted red peppers, and sundried tomato pesto and bring a pop of red to the table.

  • We also served mashed potatoes in shot glasses for an appetizer appeal at this cocktail party.

  • Baked brie with honey and slivered almonds also made an appearance at our soiree - a rich, creamy cheese is always welcome at a holiday party!

  • Sugar and spice pecans were littered throughout the party space for easy munching as guests mixed and mingled.

  • To add something heartier to our passed appetizer menu, we made these easy, yet elegant chicken and artichoke quiches.

  • And lastly, this was a holiday cocktail party, so we concocted a signature drink to fit the occasion. A sweet and tart red mix got dressed up for the occasion with the name, Santa's Sleigh!
