Gymnastics Theme Party Ideas for Kids

We threw a gymnastics themed birthday party recently and it was a hit with all our little gymnasts.  Take a look inside our party - the kids enjoyed jumping and tumbling all around a local gym, but really loved the themed dessert table we set up for them. Featuring an assortment of cake, cupcakes, cake balls, cookies and more, our table drew inspiration directly from those signature gymnastic sets like balance beams, uneven bars and foam pits.

Though we're so thrilled the kids enjoyed this display, we're also ecstatic at how inexpensive and easy it was for us to create this on our own. Click through to our how-tos for some DIY cake stand making!

  • Here's the entire dessert display we created for our gymnastics party. It pops with bright primary colors (perfect for a boys and girls celebration) and our themed desserts were a big hit.

  • Believe it or not, these "tumbling rings" were created using a few dollar store finds - 8" wreaths and streamers did the trick!

  • What do you get when you dress up an 8-inch chocolate cake from the store with a few carefully chosen embellishments? A trampoline cake! Beyond easy to make at home, so save money and get the directions for this!

  • We got hands on making this balance beam cake ball stand. You're certain to find the few supplies needed at your local hardware store.

  • While your at the store pick up supplies for an uneven bars cake stand to display cupcakes. Though you can't see it in this picture, we crafted two stand alone bar displays, one shorter than the other, and stood them together. They looked just like the uneven bars at the gym, but better!

  • With the leftover supplies from our cake stands, we crafted shallow "pits" to fill with gum balls and jelly beans. Then, we dressed them up with some scrapbook paper and party printables to make festive, yet thematic pits for tumbling.

  • The fun and games ended with a medal ceremony for the kids. Each one received a gold medal for their killer skills in the gym. But that wasn't all...

  • We also sent them home with cookies in the shape of gymnasts to remind them of the sweets they enjoyed as well!
