Hawaiian Luau Theme with a Modern Look

With the inspiration of the Hibiscus Fun invitation by Pear Tree Greetings, our luau took a modern twist.

We incorporated bright tropical colors, fresh grilled fish and fruit for a dinner party that had everyone saying, "Aloha!"

This idea was sponsored by Pear Tree Greetings.

  • The graphic design and color of the Hibiscus Fun invitation by Pear Tree Greetings suggested a Hawaiian Luau with a more modern twist.

The brilliant pink and orange colors against the cool gray background gave us the inspiration to create a luau that contrasted hot tropical colors within a subdued and natural setting.

  • An exotic pink bromeliad took center stage on the dinner table. Planted in an old wooden box embellished with a metal fish design, the bright tropical foliage paired with the weathered wood gave us that contrast that we liked so much from the graphic design on the Pear Tree invitation.

  • A handmade paper-flower lei was placed beside the plates for each guest. Tropical pink paper and orange drinking straws were cut and strung together on natural jute twine to create the wreaths.

  • We also adorned the table with easy DIY embellished glass containers. To recreate simply fill with tropical foliage and wrap fish net around!

  • A fresh and flavorful menu of grilled salmon topped with mango salsa, lemony tabouli salad, tropical fruits, and warm Hawaiian rolls defined this Hawaiian luau.

  • And for dessert? Grilled pineapple served on top of a slice of grilled poundcake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Garnish with warm caramel sauce, toasted macadamias and coconut for a tropical treat your guests won't stop talking about.

  • Inspired by the use of colors on our Pear Tree Greetings invitation, we added bright orange candles to flank the tropical centerpiece on our table.

Some small seashells and a pink flower placed in the base of the candle holders gave them the Hawaiian look they needed to be at this luau.

  • Natural rattan chargers anchored the place settings on the Hawaiian-themed table. Layering two different napkins created more color and pattern and also created a place to tuck some more tropical foliage.

  • Festive Hawaiian stir-sticks add another pop of bright tropical color to the table.

  • Even the chairs got dressed up for the luau. A swag of silk orchids was tied to the back of each chair, extending the tropical decor beyond the tabletop.

  • Mahalo! Thank you for joining us for a luau. Party favors topped with a graphic from the Pear Tree invitation held a delicious tropical trail mix for guests to take home with them.
