8 Decadent Hot Chocolate Upgrades

Nothing says winter quite like a warm, savory mug of creamy hot chocolate. But if you thought the standard chocolaty concoction, topped with a little whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg was as good as it gets, I'm here to let you know it gets much, much better.

Hot chocolate has gotten some delicious upgrades over the years, I just had to share some of the most decadent recipes. Much like a full-blown dessert, these hot chocolate recipes include everything I love to eat with chocolate -- caramel, coconut, cinnamon and even red velvet. One of these recipes can actually be made in a slow cooker, which pretty much blew my mind.

When you're planning on making a batch of hot chocolate for your kiddos, your sweetie or just to warm up after a chilly outing, try making one of these yummy concoctions. It's pretty much dessert in a glass.

  • Crockpot Coconut Hot Chocolate

What if I told you you could make a hot chocolate that tasted just like a Girl Scout Samoa cookie, that you could make entirely in your slow cooker? It's a reality, thanks to the recipe onHow Sweet it Is, and they look delicious.

  • Homemade White Hot Chocolate

White white chocolate recipe it white hot, and a creamy twist on the comfort food classic. Plus, it's a pretty winter white color that looks even better when topped with whipped cream. Get the recipe on Gimme Some Oven.

  • Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

Salted caramel is my favorite chocolate companion, so it's no surprise it tastes just as good in a batch of hot chocolate. This recipe from Savory Sweet Life shows you how to mix up this delicious drink using homemade caramel.

  • Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

Who doesn't love red velvet cupcakes? This hot chocolate recipe found on A Beautiful Mess incorporates the delicious taste of red velvet into one decadent warm drink.

  • Spiked Nutella Hot Chocolate

Nutella is the ultimate indulgence, which is why we love this yummy hazelnut hot chocolate from Chow that uses Nutella, hazelnut liqueur and brandy.

  • Frozen Hot Chocolate

As much as we love a warm mug of steamy hot chocolate, this frozen hot chocolate recipe from Six Sister Stuff is an unconventional twist on the delicious treat. The dessert was made famous at NYC romantic spot Serendipity, and can be recreated in your own kitchen.

  • Cinnamon Hot Chocolate

This recipe featured on Betty Crocker has an added kick with a touch of cinnamon. It's a delicious spin without going too over-the-top.

  • Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Peppermint Patties, Thin Mint cookies, Grasshoppers... no matter what it is, I love peppermint and chocolate together. So I have a feeling this delicious Peppermint Hot Chocolate recipe from Chowis going to be a delicious minty treat.
