Check it Off: NFL Watch Party Checklist

Summer is unofficially over, and that can only mean one thing – football season is upon us. With regular NFL Sunday afternoon games about to graze our TV screens, gathering everyone together to watch the big game is one of the best parts about autumn.

And even if sports fans are more concerned about the game – and the beer, probably – there are a few essentials you need to host a fun and successful NFL watch party. No need to spend loads of time or money, but use these helpful tips and tricks to throw your best football watch party yet.

  • Tailgating Snacks

The only thing better than an NFL game is the yummy food that goes with it. No football watch party is complete without some delicious, savory snacks. To make things easier, make a few key items in big batches, like in a slow cooker, for a no-fuss meal. Make these crock pot sloppy joes or barbeque chicken, and have them sitting out so guests can serve themselves.

You can also whip up some batches of dip, including guacamole, cream cheese spinach dip and salsa that people can eat with chips, crackers and veggies.

  • Don’t Forget About Dessert

After chowing down on Buffalo wings and homemade pizza, people might get a hankering for something sweet. Make these football cupcakes with almonds from Tuxedos Chocolate Covered Almonds for an easy and yummy football treat that's easy to clean up!

  • Football Décor

You may not be at the stadium, but you can set up your house to recreate the action of the live game! We love the idea of using astroturf as a place setting, and transforming a serving table into a football field. Check out our other Football Decor Ideas to really set the scene.

You can even pick up plates, napkins and cups with your team's logo on them at party supply stores. You'll probably need them all season -- and hopefully into the playoffs!

  • Plenty of Beer

Beer and football go so well together, it's no wonder the stadiums can get away with charging $9 a pop. Most sports enthusiasts will be happy with a pale lager, such as Bud Light or Miller Light, but make sure to include some seasonal craft beers as well. We love Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Founders Harvest Ale. If you're really adventurous, try serving your brew in a DIY Pumpkin Keg. (It will make an awesome impression, trust us).

  • Libations for the Non-Beer Drinkers

Not everyone who loves football also loves beer (gasp!) but luckily, there are some delicious fall punch recipes available for these types of people. Aside from having some liquor and wine on hand, try making a big batch of Apple Whiskey Mash. The spicy flavor is perfect for fall, and incorporates the biggest fruit of the season.

  • Yard Games

Obviously, the main attraction is the big game on the big screen. But when guests have some free time in between plays, or want a break from being inside, set up some fun backyard games for everyone. Make this DIY ring toss game from Mom Endeavors, or have some bags and washers set up outside.

It also would be fun to have a few pig skins lying around for people to throw, and relive their childhood NFL dreams.
