Patriotic Summer Tablescape Idea

A patriotic summer tablescape is a great go-to theme for an outdoor party or barbecue.

You can think of it as more of an upscale picnic while still incorporating natural elements and red and blue colors to really give it that all-American feel without overdoing it.

Here are a few summer decor ideas to keep in mind and to help inspire your own table!

  • When you start planning a party, it is always a good idea to start with your invitation and work off of its colors, texture and general feeling to plan your tablescape. I loved the patriotic feel of this invite from Finestationery.com and used it for inspiration when planning this party.

  • A blue and white checked tablecloth provides a great overall base for your table. It gives it that festive picnic feel while still looking chic and acting as a base for the other decor you'll layer atop it.

  • Try going for a unique place card idea. I used a real mini blueberry pie with a white, washable ceramic place card to really give my table that all-American summer look.

  • Incorporate natural elements onto your table that are reflective of the celebration. These flowers conjured images of fireworks and weren't too structured for our casual table. We also mimicked our invitation's color block, using clusters of red, white and blue to decorate.

  • Don't just stop at flowers - work some fresh summer berries into your centerpiece! And instead of using fancy vases, go the repurposed route and make your own arrangments in large water pitchers or mason jars. It really brings a DIY touch to your table and your guests will love the creativity as well as the classic look.

  • Wooden chargers brought a touch of that all-American feel to the table. Instead of napkins, I embellished with a red bandana to bring the "West" to the table. A small blue patterned china plate added a touch of elegance to balance out the rustic. Additionally, I used stemless glasses for a more relaxed look.

  • You can see how great all of the elements of the tablescape come together to make a fun and festive patriotic summer party. Try this out for yourself for a 4th of July bash or any warm weekend gathering!
