Recycled, Upcycled & Repurposed Christmas Goodie Bag Ideas

From freshly baked cookies to homemade candies to small gifts, DIY Christmas goodie bags are a fantastic way to wrap up so many presents for loved ones. We've crafted 8 of our own ways to dress up small, but meaningful Christmas gifts.

All of our Christmas goodie bags recycle and upcycle so many common household items into festive containers for holiday treats, making them both inexpensive and simple to make. Most importantly, each Christmas goodie bag cleverly makes use of a customized embellishments for a gift that's extra-special.

  • Take-out containers are perfect for packing up some of your homemade Christmas cookies or candy. We found a corrugated one at the craft store and tied a sprig of mistletoe and some bright red berries to the handle with a candy-cane striped bow. It's thoughtful.  It's festive. It's yummy!

  • Save that clear cup from your grande iced tea. It makes a great container for your homemade Christmas goodies. It's sturdy, easy to transform, and holds some little sweet treats just perfectly.

  • There's something yummy between those two paper plates... homemade Christmas cookies were placed on a deep-dish paper plate and then an inverted paper plate formed the lid. The two plates were woven together with a bright red satin ribbon for a very sweet goodie gift.

  • Brown paper sacks or "lunch bags" can be transformed into a festive goodie bag for the holidays with a few quick and simple steps. Best of all, it's easy to customize each bag with the look and feel you want.

  • These containers are perfect for gift-giving or for a lovely party favor at your holiday party. I stepped outside of the traditional Christmas colors and used some muted tones of polka-dot paper and coordinating ribbons. Lining the cans with a black and white damask tissue paper made the containers even a bit more unique.

  • All I want for Christmas is a galvanized tub full of yummy Christmas cookies. For this special gift, I used small bags to wrap up several different kinds of cookies. I labeled the bags and then closed the top of each bag with a red satin ribbon and tucked the bags into a galvanized tub. Some red paper shreds in the bottom of the tub helped keep the bags upright and secure.

  • Wrap up a box of homemade goodies with some stylish wrapping paper and tie it all up with a beautiful striped cotton ribbon. There are lots of Christmas tree ornaments that look like cookies and candies.  Attach a sweet ornament to the front of the package that will give a clue to what's inside.
