Sweet & Simple Vintage Tea Bridal Shower

Nothing says "Spring Shower" like a classic tea party with all the lady-like frills and florals you could wish for! Throw the bride-to-be a vintage inspired bridal shower full of whimsy with these ideas.

'Tis the season for bridal showers! Since statistics show that June is the most popular month for weddings, it's a reasonable conclusion that spring is the most popular season for bridal showers, right? !

I created some tea party bridal shower ideas that would be pretty indoors or out, with a crowd or a more intimate guest list, in the middle of spring or even in the dead of winter!

When thinking of a tea party, things that come to mind are florals, soft colors, and lots of feminine flair. Lucky for me I have a collection of pretty tea cups and saucers, and plates that I started to amass over a decade ago. To get this look at your bridal shower, scour thrift stores, antique shops, or even grandma's house to find an eclectic collection of tea cups and saucers to serve tea in. Not only are these items utilitarian but they form the basis of our decor as well - check out the gallery to see more!

  • At the center of the table, a vase of flowers is a must, and a cake pedestal filled with tea sandwiches adds height and plenty of tasty bites for each guest to sample.

  • Nothing matches at this bridal shower and yet everything goes together. That's thanks to the colors and patterns being so complimentary. It all stands out, yet works together in unison.

  • This ecclectic approach comes in handy when setting the tables for a tea party. You don't have to worry about having matching sets for a crowd. Layer larger plates with smaller dessert plates, and top with a cup and saucer.

  • Honey lollipops are an added touch of "sweetness" to each tea cup and act as a name card holder too!

Be sure to serve both hot tea and cold tea to your guests - and don't settle for the typical! We got creative with our tea menu and served this homemade pomegrante iced tea recipe as well as an offering of assorted hot teas.

  • When hosting a tea party, shop for pretty canisters of tea that can do double duty as decor. For our sweets table I used tea canisters as risers to hold plates of brownie cakes, madeleines, and jam cookies. More were used to hold floral arrangements.

  • To use the empty containers as vessels for flowers you can do either of 2 things. Place a small water filled glass inside to hold the flowers, or line the canister with plastic wrap or a plastic baggie and insert water soaked floral foam inside. Cut the flower stems to a few inches and stick them into the floral foam.

  • Distinguish the guest of honor's seat by decorating the back of her chair with a garland of ribbon and flower clips.

  • I created a beautiful tea cup display using an old wire gate and 'S' hooks.  This can be used solely as decoration or as a holding spot for guests to grab their own and fill. If using for a display, consider incorporating photos of the bride into the display for added personalization to the shower.

  • No bridal shower is complete without a few games! We customized an activity for our guests called "Spill the Tea" - a themed take on the classic gossip bridal shower game. Get the full run down on this bridal shower game and incorporate it into your celebration. Trust us, it's a lot of fun!

  • Send guests home with a gift that keeps on giving by filling a decorative box with tea party items. An array of pretty boxes can be found at the craft store in all different shapes and sizes and at assorted cost points. Fill with shredded paper filler and tuck in a mix of these items: tea cup and saucer, a couple of tea bags, a tube filled with raw sugar, or a mini jar of homemade or store bought jam.
