Trending Now: Quatrefoil Prints

Move over, chevron – quatrefoils are taking over as the chic, perfect-for-anything print that’s exploded in popularity. The preppy pattern has been featured all over clothing, bedding and even iPhone cases, and is usually accompanied by a bold colored background.

The classic shape has been a popular fixture among Gothic architecture, but has recently seen a stylish upgrade in the 2010s. The unique shape can take the form of what looks like four circles overlapping (resembling a four-leaf clover), or in a barbed form, that includes points on the end in between each circle. The shape is featured not only on prints, but also in the form of picture frames, mirrors and engraved as part of architecture.

We’re totally on board with the quatrefoil trend, and love how it adds a touch of structure and sophistication to everything from shower curtains to stationery. In honor of this booming trend, we’ve gathered some of our favorite examples of quatrefoil prints, and can’t wait to rock the four-sided shapes well into fall.

  • Jewelry

Quatrefoils have long been a staple in jewelry design, especially pendants on necklaces and earring shapes. But we love how the pattern is making its way into cuffs for a bold pop of print and color to any outfit. We love this pink and white quatrefoil cuff from Yank Design Co. for only $40.

  • iPhone Cases

You carry your phone around with your everywhere, so why not pick a case that really stands out? These iPhone cases are designed by Swanky Press for Etsy, who makes them in more than 36 colors starting at $40 a pop. You can even add your name or monogram for a preppy touch.

  • Shower Curtain

Your shower curtain ends up being the main focal point of the bathroom, and really makes an impression to the entire aesthetic of the room. Think of how often guests use your bathroom, and how much time you spend getting ready. Picking out a decorative but stylish curtain is a must, which is why we love this Studio 3B Jay Fret Shower Curtain from Bed, Bath and Beyond. The black and white color is simple, and makes for an easy canvas to design the rest of the room around. Plus, it's only $19.99 -- can't beat that!

  • Bedding

As with a bathroom, the duvet and pillow cases on a bed really tie together the whole room. It becomes the focal point of a bedroom when you walk, in, so you want to make sure you don't overdo it, or pick a pattern you'll end up getting sick of. This quatrefoil duvet cover from Echelon Home is in a calming turquiose color, and doesn't overhwelm the rest of the bedroom.

  • Pillows

If you don't want to commit to an entire duvet covered in quatrefoils, then opt for a few decorative pillows instead. They are a perfect way to add a pop of design without commiting to all-over printed furniture. Add these quatrefoil pillows from COCOCOZY to a couch, chair or even bed for a modern and chic touch.

  • Lucite Trays

We're totally loving lucite trays right now for organization. They are perfect for desks, dressers and even for serving food. This tray from Rosie Posie Designs on Etsy features a quatrefoil print in a variety of colors, and can be customized with your own monogram. Trendy and functional!

  • Pants

Patterned pants were a major spring and summer staple, but we are loving them well into fall. Quatrefoil prints on chino or skimmer pants are the perfect way to dress up any outfit for work or play. Pair with another printed blouse, like Laura Wears did with these Jo Fresh pants, or stick with a solid sweater and bold jewelry. We love this look!

  • Dresses

If printed pants are a little out of your element, try on a quatrefoil-printed dress, like this Quintissential Quatrefoil Dress from ModCloth. The design is subtle enough for an all-over pattern that's not too overwhelming, but still adds a warm fall color palette. For only $44.99, you can't beat the price.

  • Stationery

One of the best ways to add a pop of color and personality to your daily life is through colorful, decorative stationery. We love having stacks of bright notepads and monogrammed cards on our desk for a more personalized work space, and quatrefoils make for a fun, yet sophisticated stationary design.

We love this notepad from Fine Stationery, which can be monogrammed with your initials or name for an even more personal touch. Find some Thank You cards or sticky notes to really make your stationery stand out.

  • Rugs

An area rug ties in all elements of the room, and modern quatrefoil rugs are the perfect way to showcase the trendy design. Shades of Light carries all sizes, from small 2-feet-by-3-feet rugs, to larger 2-feet-by-8-feet runners. Starting at $59, these reasonable rugs come in a variety of colors to add some sophistication to your home.
