Warm & Cozy Winter Dinner Party Foods

Host a dinner party this winter that's chock full of warm, drool-worthy dishes your friends will love with these delicious ideas.

Sure, winter brings cooler temps and shorter days, but cooler temps offer a reason to enjoy warm, savory and hearty foods, while shorter days mean longer nights and more excuses to linger in the kitchen.

  • No dinner party can kick off without a cocktail. Skip the usual wine and beer, and serve a hot signature cocktail instead. Our gingersnap cocktail combines warm ginger tea with bourbon and a bit of honey for a sip that's sweet, savory and smooth.

  • Spicy fondue is a great go-to appetizer for a winter party. Not only is it simple to make, it's even easier to serve. No hostess will miss out on the dinner party fun!

  • For something a bit heartier, but just as deliciously cheesy, we're fans of baked potato skins topped with apple wood smoked bacon. They're easy enough to prepare for a crowd, but also more of a grown up approach to the classic party app.

  • You don't have to limit potato skins to the appetizer section of your winter dinner party menu. These fully loaded skins are topped with a turkey, cheese and veggie mix that's irresistible and totally satisfying.

  • A warm dish means more than getting it to the right temperature. Add a bit of spice to classic entrees like we did with our chicken Marsala recipe - a heaping tablespoon or two of tangy mustard to the sauce gives added flavor and warmth to the dish.

  • Saucy plates of pasta are always a good dish to get on a winter party menu, but why not go the extra step and whip up a creamy bowl of risotto? Our pumpkin risotto dish always impresses and is definitely worth the extra minutes spent by the stove.

  • We love spinach pie for two reasons - one, it's a great make-ahead dish, and two, it offers one of the coziest dine-in experiences we've ever enjoyed. Allow your pie to cool just a bit before serving to your dinner party guests for a vegetarian bite that's as hearty as any meat dish you might make.

  • No matter how old you get, there's just something about grilled cheese that shouts warm and cozy. Don't be afraid to serve this classic sandwich at a dinner party at home - just upgrade it a bit! We filled our gourmet grilled cheese with goat cheese and caramelized onions, then pan fried it in a an herbed butter. YUM!

  • And who says you can't get even more creative with the sandwich you loved so much as a kid? Instead of serving with tomato soup, chop up a sandwich and use it as crutons to garnish a garden salad. It adds instant warmth and depth to a seemingly boring side.

  • Pie's a popular dessert choice during the fall, but we can't resist bringing it straight into the heart of winter with us. Imagine the smiles on guests' faces if you serve this easy Dutch apple pie fresh out of the oven with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top!
