8 Women We Most Admire

Instead of bringing you a gallery of our favorite women in history, we thought we'd share the modern women we currently admire the most and who we bet will go down in the history books as some of the leading ladies of our time. From political figures to celebrities to comedians, there are so many incredible women that we admire. All of these ladies have made our list based on their good deeds, strength in the face of adversity, and for overcoming the most extreme odds - all while looking fabulous doing it.

  • Michelle Obama's bangs may be the talk of the town this week, but we admire her for so much more than her fashion sense. We admire her most for her love and passion for community service and campaign to end childhood obesity in America.

  • After Jennifer Lawrence handled her trip up the Oscar stairs with humor and humility, we can't help but admire her for being able to poke fun at the situation and maintain her gorgeous confidence. Next time we fall on our faces, we'll take a page from Jennifer's book and own it - not hang our heads in shame!

  • Robin Roberts is the news anchor for ABC's Good Morning America who overcame breast cancer in 2008 and was diagnosed with MDS in 2012. We admire her most for her strength and ability to overcome the disease, but even more for confronting her battle in public to generate awareness.

  • Amanda Beard is a seven-time Olympic medalist. Besides her amazing passion for the pool and determination, we admire Amanda most for her battle against an eating disorder. She has been strong enough to overcome it as well as brave enough to write about it in a book. We can only imagine the number of young women out there who are inspired by Amanda's story!

  • Toni Morrison just turned 82. We admire her most as the first African American woman to with the Nobel Prize. She is also the only living Prize winner in the U.S. today. One of her most famous quotes, "If there's a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it," shows the true determination of an independent woman.

  • Ellen Degeneres is most admired for not only being one of the coolest women in Hollywood, but for her efforts to speak out and raise awareness for LGBT rights, breast cancer and animal rights.

  • Lisa Ling is one of our favorite American journalists. We admire her for her work on eye opening international segments about violence against women like child trafficking and gang rapes. It takes an incredibly smart, determined and fearless women to confront such issues and bring them to the public eye.

  • Marissa Meyer is Yahoo's new CEO and has been sparking some controversy lately for banning her employees from working from home. While we admire her bold decision, we also admire her for being a strong female leader in the industry and showing women that they can have it all.
